2 National initiative, led by the partnership of the Families and Work Institute (FWI) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)Families and Work InstituteSociety for Human Resource Management The goal is to help businesses of all sizes and types become more successful by reinventing their workplaces. The initiative administers the annual When Work Works Award, which recognizes exemplary employers for creating effective and flexible workplaces to increase business and employee success. 3 Conduct original research on the practices, programs and benefits provided by U.S. employers through the National Study of Employers; Share rigorous research and employer best practices on workplace effectiveness and flexibility; Inspire local employers to create more flexible and effective workplaces to benefit both business and employees; and Recognize exemplary employers through the When Work Works Award and local community events. 5 Applicants receive: -customized benchmarking report comparing your worksite to competitors locally and across U.S. Winners receive: -local and national media attention for the things you’re doing to create an effective and flexible workplace;effective and flexible workplace -kudos at public events; and -inclusion in When Work Works, Families and Work Institute, and the Society for Human Resource Management websites as top employers to help you attract the best employees.When Work WorksFamilies and Work InstituteSociety for Human Resource Management Complete your application between August 17 and November 6, 2015. 6 Eligibility Requirements A minimum of 10 employees must work at or report to the applying U.S. site. -The definition of an employee includes all employees who receive a W-2 form. The organization must have been in operation in the U.S. for at least one year. Program Details 6

7 Round 1: EmployER Application/Survey Employers submit an online application about the flexibility programs and practices at their worksite (about 25 minutes).flexibility programs For employers with more than one location, each site can submit a separate application and is judged and awarded the Award independently. -Responses provided by the employer are then measured against a nationally representative sample of employers, based on Families and Work Institute’s ongoing National Study of Employers.Families and Work InstituteNational Study of Employers Employers that rank among the top 20% of employers in the U.S., when compared with this national data, are selected as finalists and move on to Round 2. 8 Scoring Of those surveyed in Round 2, a 40% response rate is required before a worksite can be scored. The final scoring heavily weights the experience of employees: -one third of the final score depends on the employers’ responses -two thirds of the score is determined by the employees’ responses. There is no minimum or maximum number of Award recipients. Winners located in one of the community partner’s area, will receive an Award at a local recognition event. Program Details (cont’d) 8

9 Round 2: EmployEE Survey If invited to participate… -Employees complete a survey (about 25 minutes) on their individual use of and experiences with flexibility and other aspects of an effective workplace, the supportiveness of their workplace culture and whether they perceive any negative consequences for using flexibility at their workplace.effective workplace -For organizations with fewer than 250 employees at the worksite, all employees (including the person submitting the application) are surveyed. -For sites with 250 or more employees, a random sample of 250 employees is surveyed using the email list provided by the employer Program Details (cont’d) 9
