3  Results: 1. Press Council formation 2. Adoption of the Indian Working Journalists Act 3. Acceptance of the wage board machinery  Split in 1974  National Union of Journalists was formed

4  IFWJ members formed IJU- 1989  Registered under the Indian Trade Unions Act, 1926  Total strength- 15000 members  Representation in PIB and Press Accreditation Committee  Has a huge pool of talented young journalists  Work for freedom of press

5  Act to regulate certain conditions of service of working journalists  Act is for people employed in newspaper establishments

6  SPECIAL PROVISIONS IN RESPECT OF CERTAIN CASES OF RETRENCHMENT 1. Wages for 1 month 2. Compensation which shall be equivalent to 15 days

7  PAYMENT OF GRATUITY 1. Not less than 3 years in the newspaper establishment  HOURS OF WORK 1. Not more than 144 hours for 4 consecutive weeks 2. Should be allowed one leave in 7 days

8  COMPENSATION FOR OVER TIME WORK 1. For more than six hours on any day in the case of day shift 2. More than five and half hours in case of night shift

9  LEAVES 1. Earn leave 2. Maternity leave 3. Quarantine leave 4. Extraordinary leave 5. Casual leave
