2. Do I need light to see? Have you ever gone into a room that has no windows? When you close the door it can become so dark that you can’t see anything! We need light to see things here on earth. We need light to see things in outer space.

3. Does everything in space give off its own light? We can see many different things in the night sky. Some things we see because they create their own light. Some things we see because they are reflecting light.

4. What kinds of things in space give off their own light? The sun, other stars, and bodies made of hot gases make their own light.

5. What kinds of things in space can only reflect light? Planets can only be seen when they are reflecting light from the sun. The moons can only be seen when they are reflecting light from the sun.

6. Can I see the moon when light is blocked from shining on it?  When all of the light is blocked from shining on the moon I can’t see any of it.  When some of the light is blocked from shining on the moon I can’t see the part that is in the dark.  When none of the light is blocked from shining on the moon I can see all of it. coke.physics. ucla.edu/laptag/mchs/moon -phase
