RENEGADE SQUADRON G.C.I.T.

The Renegade Squadron – (motto “Semper Fit”) This club is for students who are serious about the military, discipline, self respect, and respecting others. The purpose is to educate and train high school students who show an interest in leadership and a strong sense of character. The Renegade Squadron will focus most of their training in leadership and team work building activities as well as exploring the history of various military branches. NOTE: all members should be willing and prepared for physical conditioning which includes running, push-ups, sit-ups, and other core exercises.

Rules You are expected to be on time! Respect each other and leaders Be prepared with proper clothing Be responsible Be Silent until asked to speak

Dress Code You are expected to arrive to club in uniform! Your uniform will be a black T-shirt WITH SLEEVES and jeans. You are expected to look professional (sweat pants, tights/leggings, and skinny jeans are unacceptable). You must wear sneakers or boots. Any other footwear (uggs, flip-flops, etc. are unacceptable).

Mission: Leadership skills Drill & Ceremony Physical training Survival techniques Self Defense Discipline Military tactics (including building/room breaching)

Leadership skills The ability to lead in any situation has always been regarded as highly valuable from every era in history Leadership begins with motivation and confidence; both of which will be built on during this club. Public speaking will be heavily stressed on during this course. There’s no easy way to get comfortable with it; the best way to get over fear of public speaking is to practice it.

Drill & Ceremony Since ancient Roman times, drill has been used excessively in militaries world-wide It’s purpose was to move masses of troops in an organized fashion, and even today, it still is A big benefit in drill & ceremony is learning teamwork One person doing drill isn’t as impressive as an entire squadron doing it in unison Everyone will be expected to practice drill both during the club period and at home

Physical training Physical training (PT) isn’t meant to be fun (although it is to some of you…) PT is designed to build your physical strength and mental confidence If you know you are already good at one thing, work on areas that need improving. Do not forget to maintain the strength areas that you’re already good at! It doesn’t take long to lose muscles that are not exercised. Eventually, you will be expected to run 3 miles without stopping. Physical strength is required for this, but it cannot be done if you do not have the mental will to achieve it.

Survival Skills

Survival techniques This is more of a “Just-in-case” class rather than a “try-it-yourself” one Using the U.S. Army Survival Guide, you’ll learn how to survive on your own or with a group for days or months before rescue This will range from basic shelters and fire making to hunting and cooking using nothing but what the wilderness supplies you

Self Defense Self-defense is a good thing to know incase you happen to find yourself in the middle of a fight for you life Keep in mind that knowing how to take someone down doesn’t mean you have to Avoid getting into fights at all costs, even if it makes you look like a wimp However, you should identify whether or not the situation calls for action If you can justify and support the means for your actions, take them out

Discipline It takes discipline to form any organization Members must understand their rolls and responsibilities within teams and the squadron Self-discipline is a type of discipline that cannot be taught. Only you can develop that sense of integrity to do what needs to be done Discipline builds trust If you are known for being responsible, you will be regarded as trustworthy and reliable

Military Tactics Tactics are always changing Since we won’t be using swords and spears, you’ll be learning strategies from WW2 up to modern day Along with this, building breach-and-clears are commonly used today and will also be taught and performed This requires heavy discipline and teamwork. Do not think of your peers as competition; think of them as family. If you have your teammates’ backs, they have yours This course will get difficult very quickly, so be prepared to think on your feet and improvise at a moment’s notice.
