 The Iguazu National Park is a World Heritage site.  It’s name came from the Guarani word for “Great Waters”.  Translated into Spanish it is “aguas grandes”.  The park is a large, protected environmental area in South America.

 The Iguazu National Park is located the northeast part of the Misiones, a province of Argentina.  It is shared with Brazil and is near the border of Paraguay.

 The state and federal governments were the ones who decided to establish it.

 It was created on October 9, 1934.

 It was created in order to protect the biological diversity of the subtropical rainforest and the impressive scenery that surrounds the Falls. Coatimundi

 The area was being threatened by the construction of roads, so the federal police took action and had it established as a national park.

 The area originally belonged to the Guarani people, before the Spanish and Portuguese arrived there. ◦ They were organized in tribes and were highly knowledgeable about plants and animals. They used the natural resources in the area to survive.

It is a tourist attraction, but it is also an area that is subject to scientific research because of its natural richness.

 It generates revenue for the country because it is a tourist attraction.

 It’s one of the top 100 waterfalls in the world according to the World Waterfall Database.  It was featured in one of the Indiana Jones movies.
