2 In the beginning, all of the Greek gods met. Athena, or the “grey eyed goddess” preached to Zeus to let Odysseus return to his home. The gods admired him not giving up. EVERY GOD ATTENDED EXEPT POSIEDON. SWEET NYMPH AND OPEN SEA

3 Zeus decided to Help Odysseus. “He turned to his favorite son and said… Hermes, you have much to practice on our missions, go make it known to the softly braided nymph that we, whose will is not subject to error, order Odysseus home” Book five. “Lines 29 through 33.”

4 Hermes Went to the island where the nymph calypso lived The nymph took care of Odysseus, but did not let him leave and return to his home. Hermes persuaded her. CALYPSO

5 Calypso agrees to let Odysseus go Odysseus makes a raft, and sets out for his journey. On the sea for 18 days, until Poseidon figures out the gods have helped him. Gets very angry, creates a giant storm Athena helps Odysseus so he does not die Drifts to sea into a river, when he is found (Scheria, the phaecians)
