Kazan is the capital of the Tatar republic. It is called the third capital of Russia. Kazan is one of the most modern, comfortable and traditionally cosmopolitan cities of our country. We can’t imagine Kazan without Syuyumbeki Tower.It was built about 400 years ago. It is one of the most famous leaning towers in the world. Syuyumbeki Tower is an architectural emblem of the city. At present, the slope of the tower is 1.8 m.
The name of Syuyumbeki Tower is associated with the name Tatar queen called Syuyumbeki - the wife of the last two of Kazan khans. There is a very beautiful and sad legend about the construction of this tower. Once upon a time Ivan the Terrible wanted to marry queen Syuyumbeki. When the queen got the proposal of marriage, she set a condition. Ivan the Terrible had to build the tallest tower in the city. The Tsar built the tower, but Syuyumbeki climbed it and fell of the tower.
There is the most modern mosque in Kazan, which name is Kul Sharif Mosque. Kul Sharif Mosque is also a memorial to the fallen defenders of the city of Kazan. The mosque was built in 1996-2005. Kul Sharif Mosque is tatars’s from all the world mosque.
