2. The Localism Act 2011 which amended the ‘Housing Act 1996’ gave Councils the power to discharge the main homelessness duty by way of a private rented sector tenancy offer. Southend-On-Sea Borough Council decided to use this power as from 29 th April 2013.

3.  Must conform to the Government’s new Suitability Order  Just complete our simple checklist

4. We offer to:  Pay one months rent in advance  Pay one months deposit  Pay any reasonable administration fees  Set up Direct Payment  Give assistance from The Housing Options Team  Follow up checks throughout the tenancy

5.  Since April we have placed 8 households and look forward to continuing good working relationships with our colleagues in the private rental sector.
