People often say "I need more time" or "I don't have time for (e.g., exercise)". The truth is, we all have 168 hours per week. No more, no less. What's underlying these statements, and what are some potential remedies? When people say they "don't have time," the fact is that this activity is not sufficiently high in their priorities to devote time to it. Few would argue the merits of exercise, yet recent statistics suggest that a majority of North Americans are overweight and physically unfit. Depending on the other priorities students have (get good grades, have fun, etc.), they may not choose to fit in exercise. Saying "I don't have time to exercise" is an excuse (a poor one, too!). Saying "I choose not to exercise," demonstrates the speakers' willingness to take responsibility for their actions (or inaction!) and clarity on their priorities.

Do you ever feel so stressed out that you need a BREAK? From school, your friends, reality? Do you find it hard to relax? Have you ever turned to alcohol or drugs to "take the edge off?" (May work in the short term, but can do more harm than good in the long term.) ?" (Are you always "on"?) Might discuss how some stress is good…it keeps us energized and focused on achieving our goals. However, too much stress can be crippling. It can cause us to burn out, perform inadequately and look for relief in drugs or alcohol. How do you manage stress?
