Leadership Portfolio

I strive to enjoy life; Through balance comes happiness I want to grow and evolve; Never regress to a lesser me I will be grateful for the good; Even during the bad I will accept people and their flaws; In hopes that they will accept mine I will look for success; Even in my failures PERSONAL MISSION STATEMENT

My leadership style is transformational leadership. Transformational leaders are the motivators of the group, I like to take on the role of inspiring the people I’m working with. I expect the best from the people I’m working with and in turn always give my best. I try and engage everyone in the task at hand to promote the highest level of productivity. MY LEADERSHIP STYLE Areas of Strength: My strengths in leadership come from my drive to complete a task to the highest level of performance and my willingness to work and promote my team to the same level. Areas of Weakness: I tend to take people’s feelings into account too much when it is an issue that should be removed of people’s personal opinions. It is a flaw I am aware of and consciously try to avoid doing.

FIVE LEADERS I IDENTIFY WITH Queen Elizabeth I: She was so influential because she was the first woman to lead a country without a man by her side. She was independent and relied on herself and her own strength to make the best decisions. I see myself in her in the aspect of her independence, confidence, and personal strength. Martin Luther King Jr. :He was a peaceful leader which is a very admirable quality. He used his words and visions to create a better world. He took his dream and inspired people to turn his dream into actions. I think the best way to communicate your point to people is to inspire them to be as passionate as you are about the subject and that is something I like to incorporate when I lead. Tina Fey: She was the first female head writer of the show Saturday Night Live, Under Fey’s leadership, the writing staff received an award from the Writer’s Guild of America in 2001 and an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in 2002. She infiltrated her way to the top of SNL a so called “boys club” and made her mark proving she can break any previous set barriers or stereotypes. This to me is so inspiring and sets an example that just because no one has gone there before doesn’t mean you can’t be the first. Sonia Sotomayor: Sworn in as the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice, she was raised in poverty by her widowed mother, exemplifying the American dream. Sonia is an amazing example of overcoming road blocks in your life, even using them as lessons to furthur you in life. I try and take life lessons or hardships into account when I lead and use them to better myself.

First, I believe my AMBITION is one of my strongest qualities. My ambition is what inspires me to work hard and always be reaching to the next level of accomplishment. With my ambition I will always keep wanting, and never settle. Second, I am a very RESPONSIBLE person. Responsibility is very important to me, because from a young age I was always taught that if you want something it’s your responsibility to get it. Responsibility is in every aspect of life, and I always take my responsibilities seriously. Third, my DETERMINATION is a quality that is fueled by my ambition. My ambition causes me to dream big and in turn I have all this determination to accomplish these goals that I dream up. When it comes to my goals I am a big go getter. Fourth, I am a very COOPERATIVE person. I work well with people and enjoy bouncing ideas off others and I enjoy hearing their ideas and working together to reach a common goal. I pride myself on being easy to work with. DIFFERENTIAL ADVANTAGES

In the summer of 2012, I was asked by my manager to take a leadership role for the day while she spent time at our storage unit. I would be in charge of answering the phones, dealing with any computer problems, and customer questions would be referred to me by other employees for the day, along with delegating cleaning tasks at closing. I handled the phones and the computers throughout the day with no problem, and the other employees generally took my direction well. It was hard for me to motivate them to do tasks throughout the day because they saw me as a peer not a leader but by the second time I would ask they took me seriously. Any customer questions I felt I didn’t have authority to answer I would call my manager for clarification. The day went smoothly with no problems and we met sales goal that night which my manager was very happy about. I believe I proved myself to my manager and she said she would use me again if another situation like this arose. LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

2013: In the upcoming year, I plan to continue my education at Ohio University. In the summer I would like to have a marketing internship, gaining real world marketing experience along with real world leadership experience. 2014: Next year, I plan to apply for and obtain a second internship with a business for a semester, or the summer. During the school year, I will work on obtaining more leadership opportunities in my organizations. I will also being exploring fulltime job opportunities. 2015: This year, I will continue my search for a fulltime job and find one that I am the best fit for. I will graduate from Ohio University in June and hopefully begin my fulltime employment following graduation. 2016: After being at my job for a few months, I will look to establish a mentor/mentee relationship with one of my supervisors. I will be working on succeeding in my first fulltime job. 2017: I hope to be in a position in my company that allows me to demonstrate my leadership skills. I will take time to evaluate my fit at the company and ask my mentor to recommend areas of improvement for me. MY 5 YEAR PLAN

At this time I am a Mentee within the Mentor/ Mentee process. I have reached out to my mentor for interview advice, help with understanding the concepts of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and guidance on my leadership portfolio. Having a Mentor has been a great resource and I have really enjoyed the mentoring process thus far. I look forward to taking after my Mentor and being a good example to my Mentee next year.
