8 Defence and Security Division WG6 – Societal & cross- jurisdictional (1/2) ISO/IEC 24714 TR on Cross-Jurisdictional and Societal Aspects of Implementations of Biometric Technologies !Status SD2 ! Specifically, the report will offer guidance in the design and development of systems using biometrics with respect to issues of > societal norms and legal requirements in the use of biometric data between different jurisdictions, in particular as regards privacy and personal data protection > usability of biometrics by the widest population of individuals >health and safety !Specification and assessment of government policy are excluded.

9 Defence and Security Division WG6 – Societal & cross- jurisdictional (2/2) Some recommendation  As soon as the decision is made to implement a biometric solution, planning should start to address issues of accessibility, health and safety, security and privacy.  Companies utilizing biometric systems should indicate a point of contact responsible for those biometric applications. To this purpose, he/she should  Establish guidelines for collection, storage and use of biometric data  Inform the subjects about the safety of the biometric process  Maintain the technical papers relating to the biometric system  Be responsible for the safe and secure storage and use of the data  Be responsible for all the actions (e.g. amendments and cancellations) relating to the biometric data  Respond to requests for information  Recommendations addressed to operators, designers, etc:  the acclimation rate depends upon the frequency of use, peer etc.  Education and Awareness for both users and subjects  Consider the most effective ways of engaging with the subject, e.g. providing a video clip or sequence illustrating its use  Graphics and posters should be provided, especially for those unable to read the language(s).
