A condition characterized by excess body fat (Webster’s Dictionary) Obesity is a chronic disease; patient and practitioner must understand that successful treatment requires a lifelong effort (NIH The Practical Guide: Identification, Evaluation, and Treatment of Overweigt and Obesity in Adults)
