3.  Children to arrive between 8:45 and 8:55 am.  An early morning task will be set for the children.  Registration 9:00 am.  Phonics 9:05 - 9:30 am  Assembly is at 10:30, apart from singing which begins at 10:25 am.  During assembly time, staff work with guided reading groups.  Play time 10:45 - 11:00 am.  Milk/Water – 11:00 am  Second session 11:00 - 12:00 am  Dinner 12 - 1:15 pm.  Third session 1:15 - 2:15.  Afternoon playtime 2:15 -2:30  Last session 2:30 -3:15  Children can be picked up between 3:15 and 3:30 pm.  After school clubs 3.15-4.15

4.  PE kits should include clothes for both outdoor and indoor PE. (Black shorts, jogging bottoms, white T-shirt).  All clothes should be labelled.  Footwear should be either pumps or trainers (named).  Can parents check kits periodically to ensure they still fit their child.  The PE kit should be in a clearly labelled bag and should remain in school for the duration of the half term.  No jewellery is to be worn. Earrings must be removed.  PE is on Wednesdays and Fridays.

5.  Children are welcome to take books home as long as they can remember to bring them back.  Every effort will be made to make sure a range of books to suit all abilities are available.  If children like a particular type of book - please ask, we may be able to find some. e.g. spooky stories, fairy tales.

6.  Work is sent out fortnightly and is linked to the topic. It is an opportunity for your child to share their learning with you.  We ask for this to be returned on or before the date requested.

7.  Learning logs are a vital communication between home and school.  This is where we will share what your child has been reading, their current targets and any areas your child may need to work on.  Parents are invited to write in them when reading, to tell us about any achievements or ask questions. Please share what your child has been doing at home too.  Please can the children be reminded to put learning logs into the boxes provided in the classrooms every morning.

9.  Stronger emphasis on: vocabulary development grammar punctuation spelling (for example, the use of commas and apostrophes will be taught in KS1) Handwriting is expected to be fluent, legible and speedy Spoken English will focus on debating and presenting skills

10.  5 year olds will be expected to learn to count up to 100 (20 under the old curriculum)  Learn number bonds to 20 (instead of 10)  Simple fractions (1/4 and 1/2 ) will be taught from KS1  By 9 children will be expected to know times tables up to 12 x 12 (compared to 10 x 10 by the end of primary school)

11.  Stronger emphasis on scientific knowledge and language  Caring for animals will be replaced by topics like the human circulatory system  Evolution to be taught in primary schools for the first time.

12.  Afforded greater importance in the curriculum  Setting children on the path to become designers and engineers of the future  Use of design equipment such as electronics and robotics  Stronger emphasis on food technology

13.  Computing replaces Information and Communication Technology (ICT)  Greater focus on programming rather than on operating programs  From age of 5 children will learn to: write and test simple programs organise store and retrieve data digital literacy (e-safety)

14.  In year 1 we offer a rich curriculum through our half termly topics:-  Autumn 1 -Ourselves  Autumn 2 –Weather and seasons  Spring 1-Australia  Spring 2-Exciting Inventions  Summer 1-Growing plants  Summer 2 –Farm animals

15.  Children in key stage 1(both year 1 and 2) are attending differentiated phonics groups.  Every fortnight, phonics tasks will be sent home linked to what they have been learning in phonics. This does not need to be returned to school. It is for them to complete at home and to inform you what they have been doing.

16.  All children will be required to complete a phonics check in the summer term.  Contains both real and ‘alien’ words to check how children are applying their phonics learning. e.g doy bath

17.  Children's writing is formally assessed half termly.  After an assessment a target will be shared with your child. This will come home in the learning log so you and your child know their target and you can help them achieve the target.  Targets are shared for reading, writing and maths
