The Excretory system By: Quinn Keller, Madison Skelly, Trinity Collier, and Jeff Cash

● Eliminates solid and non-solid waste products, and helps maintain homeostasis through sweat, urine, and exhalation Function of the Excretory System

➢ Skin ➢ Lungs ➢ Kidneys ➢ Ureters ➢ Bladder ➢ Urethra Parts of the Excretory System

It takes your kidneys about 45 minutes to completely filter all the blood in your body

The skin is the largest respiratory organ that eliminates toxins in sweat as well as cooling off the body by regulating the temperature. Disease: S kin cancer is the uncontrollable growth of cancer cells in the skin, if left untreated these cells can spread to other organs and tissues. Cure: Excisional surgery is when the physician uses a scalpel to remove the entire growth with a surrounding border of normal skin as a safety margin, the wound around the surgical site is then closed with stitches. Skin

this is an example of melanoma, skin cancer

Remove the Carbon Dioxide in your blood using specialized cells called Alveoli Disease: Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that can spread through the lymph nodes and bloodstream to any organ. It is most often found in the lungs Cure: The usual course of treatment is two antibiotics (isoniazid and rifampicin) every day for six months and two additional antibiotics (pyrazinamide and ethambutol) every day for the first two months Lungs

Kidneys: Organs that eliminate waste by filtering and cleaning the blood of urea, to produce urine which is held in the bladder until it’s been passed Disease: Kidney Stones-this is when uric acid or calcium collect and form crystals that bundle up in the kidneys, causes the host pain, and when severe, prevents the kidneys to function correctly. Cure: If you have kidney stones, there are two ways to remove them, you can wait until you can pass them or you can have them surgically removed. In order to pass the stones, they need to be quite small. Sometimes Lithotripsy ( a type of ultrasound rock blaster) is used to break up larger accumulations. When that doesn’t work, surgery may be advised.

Ureter The tube that carries urine from each kidney to the bladder Disease: Ureteral stricture is the narrowing of the ureter, caused by various diseases with the development of a upper urinary tract obstruction. Cure: Inserting a catheter into your bladder to drain urine and relieve pain

Sac like organ that stores the urine before leaving the body Disease: Interstitial cystitis is a less common, chronic problem, that causes bladder pain and frequent, urgent urination, and inflammation UTI is a more common form of inflammation. Cure: There is no cure for Interstitial cystitis but there is treatment to relieve the symptoms of bladder pain, urgency, and frequency Bladder

A single tube connected to the bladder that rids the body of urine. Disease: Urethritis this disease is an inflammation of the urethra caused by bacterial/viral infection. Treatment of Urethritis are anti- viral/pain medication. Cure: Antibiotics; Adox, Monodox, Oracea Urethra
