P. 15

“Where there is great love there are miracles!” -St. Augustine-

“In ever increasing numbers, the children of America come to us from unstable, pathetically dysfunctional homes. Fewer and fewer enjoy healthy, happy conditions with both of their birth parents. The predominant others live with single parents, grandparents, in foster homes, or with the single parent’s girlfriend or boyfriend. Still others have step-parents and step- siblings in numbers which defy imagination…

Living the Lessons …Even more shocking are the staggering numbers of students whose parents are incarcerated, drug users, or homeless —sometimes all three. Our young people are the victims of the deplorable disintegration of a formerly sound American family structure, and they are wounded!” Living the Lessons, 2006

“To love, you must forgive.” -Mother Teresa-

Living the Lessons

Pride vs. Humility

Living the Lessons “Generally speaking, I’m not stubborn; however, The Sneeches really helped me last night. I was talking to my mother, and suddenly I noticed that I was being stubborn! Thanks to the story, I caught myself.” -Laura Bierwirth-

Living the Lessons “When Mrs. LaField read The Sneeches, my first thought was that I’m not stubborn at all! But then I really really thought about it, and I realized that I AM very stubborn with my parents. Now I’m realizing when I’m being stubborn with them, and I’m catching myself!” -Lizzy Lupercio-

Living the Lessons “I have always thought that there was like nothing wrong with me, but when Mrs. LaField read The Sneeches and we talked about it, I realized I really need to change.” -Celine LeClerc-

Living the Lessons “I have always been so stubborn all my life, especially with my grandmother. I argue with her a lot for no good reason. I actually make her cry and I don’t even care! After Mrs. LaField read The Sneeches, I knew how wrong I was. That story is changing my life!” -Kealey Drier-

Living the Lessons “The moment Mrs. LaField finished reading The Sneeches I knew I needed to change. I am very stubborn with my sister, and I hurt her feelings. I don’t want to hurt her any more!” –Madison Wright-

Today, more than ever before, veritable legions of the children in our classrooms are growing up in a world of broken promises, broken dreams, broken hearts, and broken homes. We can do much to help put the John Wards back together again.

Living the Lessons “Where there is great love there are miracles!” -St. Augustine-

When the hour is darkest and the night blackest, Never give up! When the critic scoffs you and the crowd scorns you, Never give up! When the battle rages and you stand wounded and scarred, Never give up! Take one more step, breathe one more breath, NEVER GIVE UP!!!
