3 The Inter-American Program on Education for Democratic Values and Practices. Adopted at the IV IntAm Meeting of Ministers of Education (Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago, August, 2005). Ratified by OAS General Assembly (2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010). A hemispheric alliance – public, private sector, NGOs. A vehicle to implement Articles 26, 27 of IDC (Lima, Peru, September 11, 2001). Long-term goal: promote and strengthen the creation of a culture of democracy through education. Interdisciplinary Advisory Board: 35 renowned experts from around the Hemisphere.

Young Scholars Program 3) Information Exchange Internet Portal www.educadem.oas.org. www.educadem.oas.org Online Bulletins (6 editions). Horizontal Cooperation Fund Technical Assistance Missions.

Editorial leadership transition for new phase. (Indiana University – UNAM)

The Ministry of Education, Argentina, and The State Secretary of Education, Dominican Republic, on School Mediation. The Advanced Study Center of Childhood and Adolescence, Colombia and The National University of Lujan, Argentina, on early childhood citizenship education Productive Living Together Corporation, Colombia, and Via Education, Mexico, on piloting the Colombian Program Classrooms in Peace to schools in Mexico. The Global Issues Resource Center, USA, and The Ministry of Public Education, Costa Rica, on piloting the US program on teacher training on conflict resolution education in Costa. The Electoral Tribunal, Panama, The Supreme Elections Tribunal, Costa Rica, The Supreme Electoral Tribunal, Guatemala, on strengthening education to prevent youth abstention from voting.

The Inter-American Institute for Human Rights, Costa Rica, The Ministry of Education, Chile, The Organization for the Defense of Human Rights, Ecuador, The General Directorate for Indigenous Education, Mexico, on rethinking public policy on indigenous education in Mexico. The Ministry of Education, Peru, and The National Ministry of Education, Colombia, on exchange of national experiences on teacher training in citizenship education. The Ministry of Education, Trinidad and Tobago, The Ministry of Local Government, Trinidad and Tobago and Cascade Educational Consultants, USA, on students councils in schools.

11 Activities 2008 – 2010 (Cont.) 3) Exchange of Information and Experiences Project “The use of arts and the media in promoting democratic citizenship among children and youth” Project “The use of arts and the media in promoting democratic citizenship among children and youth” Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, June 16 – 18, 2010 -Follow-up to CIE – CIC collaboration -Executed with support of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD/FUNGLODE) -84 professionals from the public and private sectors, civil society, and international organizations in the education and culture sectors of 26 OAS member states Regional Forum on Citizenship Competencies Regional Forum on Citizenship Competencies Guayaquil, Ecuador October 19 – 20, 2010, - OEA as strategic partner of the SREDECC. - Supported the participation of 5 OAS member states

Project “Armando Paz” Building a Culture of Peace with Youth in Central America through Arts, Media and Social Dialogue. - Joint project of the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security, the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development and the Trust for the Americas - Objective: to promote a culture of peace among youth to help curb the proliferation of violence that affects and links them to both their community and their region - Implementation sechedule 2009 – 2012. - Countries: El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama
