Remote control points shall be provided for other plant operations such as container filling, loading or un- loading of cargo tank vehicles and railroad tank cars, or operation of the engine fuel dispenser.

3. 5.1.5 Student Book © 2005 Propane Education & Research CouncilPage 1 Applying NFPA 58 code requirements to selecting dispenser emergency shutdown system components NFPA 58 2004 Vehicle fuel dispenser requirements 6.22.3.11 An identified and accessible switch or circuit breaker shall be installed at a location not less than 20 feet or more than 100 feet from the dispensing device(s) to shut off the power in the event of a fire, accident, or other emergency. 6.22.3.12 The markings for the switches or breakers shall be visible at the point of liquid transfer.

6. 5.1.5 Student Book © 2005 Propane Education & Research CouncilPages 2 & 3 Applying NFPA 58 code requirements for fire extinguishers used at propane dispensers NFPA 58 2004 6.23.4.2 Each industrial plant, bulk plant, and distributing point shall be provided with at least one approved portable fire extinguisher having a minimum capacity of 18 lb (pounds) of dry chemical with a B:C rating. Where fire extinguishers have more than one letter classification, they can be considered to satisfy the requirements of each letter class. Check the applicable codes for your operating area to determine if the authority having jurisdiction requires a fire extinguisher at propane dispenser installations. If one is required, typically the requirement is met with a 20 pound dry chemical extinguisher with a B:C or A:B:C rating.
