1 2011 OSEP Leadership Mega Conference Collaboration to Achieve Success from Cradle to Career 2.0 The Technology Leadership Initiative (TLI) A Collaboration Between OSEP, the National Parent Technical Assistance Center, and the Region 5 Parent Technical Assistance Center Gretchen Godfrey and Julie Hertzog from the NPTAC, Jacey Tramutt and Roger Holt from the Region 5 PTAC Strand Presentation #

2 What is the TLI? A pilot project of eight Parent Centers (6 PTIs and 2 CRPCs*) that will engage in a strategic planning process to incorporate technology to better meet their mission. Project Period: October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012 *Parent Training and Information Centers and Community Parent Resource Centers

3 Who Is Participating? 44 applications were reviewed. 8 centers selected, 6 PTIs (1 per region) and 2 CPRCs Region 1: Sinergia, NY City, NY Region 2: STEP, Greeneville, TN Region 3: Louisiana PTI, Harahan, LA Region 4: PEAL Center, Pittsburgh, PA Region 5: South Dakota Parent Connection, Sioux Falls, SD Region 6: TASK, Anaheim, CA Region 5: Denver CPRC, Aurora, CO (CPRC) Region 4: HUNE, Philadelphia, PA (CPRC)

5 Project Organization Virtual Process : Big 10 — Entire management team connected through conference calls on a consistent schedule “The Wiki Wranglers” — Weekly meetings of a smaller work group Consultants — Collaboration with nonprofit technology Big Tent — Communication, sharing of files, resources, notes, etc. within management team Wiki — TLI online community: Participants share their work, resources, ask questions; TLI management team communicate with the participants.

6 Project Organization Virtual and In-Person Training Activities: In-person trainings: Jan.- Kick off training with John Kenyon, Consultant March - Nonprofit Technology Conference, hosted by NTEN August - Close of Project Training, Facilitated by John Kenyon Remote Trainings: Monthly webinars/conference calls which are in alignment with technology planning assignments Ongoing Activities: Technology planning assignments due monthly (posted to the wiki) Conversation on the wiki Sharing of resources

7 Goals Help Parent Centers see the value and necessity of technology planning Create a cultural shift in the Parent Center network Provide Parent Centers with a model for how to do technology planning Provide training on best practices in nonprofit technology content areas such as return on investment (ROI), business process mapping, and budgeting Expose Parent Centers to new online tools and resources Collect data on the process to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the program Share the findings and information with the entire Parent Center network
