The Future of the BPP What’s Next? Executive Committee Leadership Timeline-Urgency Decision making processes
Organizing Principles for the Network Going Forward Self Determining Entrepreneurial Accountable Self-Sustaining
Executive Committee Recommendations 4 broad strategies of future BPP To collaborate on and jointly advance cross border programmatic issues To work together to mobilize more and more effective resources to address regional issues To strengthen the institutional capacity of member organizations To provide leadership and influence public policy
Strategy 1 To collaborate on and jointly advance cross border programmatic issues of common concern Compile data, information and best practices on border issues Exchange information and learn together Identify and define priority issues Create and implement action plans in priority areas
Strategy 2 To work together to mobilize more and more effective philanthropic resources to address border issues Jointly approach new and existing funders (corporate and others) for special opportunity grants Increase grants to border communities( both grants from CFs to border communities, as well as grants from outside the region) Increase visibility through joint marketing, networking efforts
Strategy 3 Strengthen the Institutional Capacity of Border Community Foundations Training and technical assistance to strengthen BCF skills Identify opportunities to reduce back office costs of members through combined purchasing power, sharing of resources, etc.
Strategy 4 Provide leadership and influence public policy at the local, regional and transnational levels on issues that affect the border and border foundations Executive Committee wants the input of BPP members as to whether the majority of members support this strategy, and if so, what would be the priority activities under it.
Future Structure 2 recommendations so far: Membership open to current partners, and in the future consider other grantmaking institutions, and possibly other types of members Phase III BPP should be incubated at host foundation/s where back office costs can be covered
Flow For Next Three Days Today: -Review and discuss purpose and four broad strategies of the future BPP—the “why” Tomorrow: -Flesh out the strategies and activities within each area – the “what and how” Friday: -Determine committee activities and timeline
Questions for Small Group Work Today 1) Do you have questions about the purpose and 4 strategies? 2) Are these the appropriate strategies for phase III? Are they the right ones? 3) Would you propose any changes/edits? 4) Specifically, do you endorse strategy 4? 5) Do you think your organization would sign on and commit resources to Phase III if these are the strategies ?
