THE CALL TO WORSHIP [ Pastor / CONGREGATION] Isaiah 61:11; 55:9-11 For as surely as the soil provides a place FOR THE SPROUT TO COME UP, and as certainly as a garden OFFERS A PLACE FOR SEEDS TO GROW, so the Sovereign Lord will cause RIGHT LIVING AND PRAISE TO SPRING UP.

As the heavens are higher than the earth, SO ARE GOD’S WAYS higher than our ways, AND GOD’S THOUGHTS higher than our thoughts. AS THE RAIN AND THE SNOW come down from heaven, AND DO NOT RETURN TO HEAVEN without watering the earth, AND MAKING THE EARTH to bud and flourish,

SO IT YIELDS SEED FOR THE SOWER and bread for the eater: THIS IS HOW IT IS WITH GOD’S WORD that goes forth from His mouth: IT WILL NOT RETURN TO HIM EMPTY, but will accomplish what God desires; GOD’S WORD WILL ACHIEVE THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH HE SENT IT.

THE OPENING HYMN #410 STANDING ON THE PROMISES [ All who are able please stand ]

Standing on the promises of Christ my King, Through eternal ages let His praises ring, Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, Standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God my Savior; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail, When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, By the living Word of God I shall prevail, Standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God my Savior; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord, Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord, Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword, Standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God my Savior; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises I cannot fall, Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call Resting in my Savior as my all in all, Standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God my Savior; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.

SILENT PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND CONFESSION THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON 1 Chronicles 29:11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the majesty, and the splendor, for everything in heaven and on earth belongs to You. Yours, O Lord, is the Kingdom. You are exalted as Head over all things.

**THE SONG OF RESPONSE: #105 WE WILL GLORIFY We will glorify the King of kings; We will glorify the Lamb. We will glorify the Lord of lords, Who is the great I AM. Lord Jehovah reigns in majesty; We will bow before the throne. We will worship Him in righteousness, We will worship Him alone.

He is Lord of heaven, Lord of earth; He is Lord of all who live. He is Lord above the universe; All praise to Him we give. Hallelujah to the King of Kings; Hallelujah to the Lamb; Hallelujah to the Lord of lords, Who is the great I AM.

A TIME OF SHARING WITH GOD’S CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

THE NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE Colossians 1:3-14 Read by Elder Neil VanDerJagt We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints ‑‑ the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel that has come to you.

All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth. You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, and who also told us of your love in the Spirit. For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

THE SONG OF PREPARATION: #58 BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me bless His holy name (Please repeat)

THREE ‘CHRIST-IN-YOU’ VIRTUES: #1- Generosity #2-Tolerance #3- Forgiveness Colossians 1:3-14 (Sermon 1 of 3 on Christ-centered virtues) #2 - 07/19/15 - RESTRAINT and FIDELITY #3 - 07/26/15 - COURAGE Bayshore Gardens Community Church Dr. Daniel Herlein

VIRTUES ARE INTERNALIZED ATTITUDES OF MORAL EXCELLENCE, NURTURED INTO PRACTICE. Paul uses the powerful triad of FAITH, LOVE AND HOPE as the unshakable bedrock of Christ-centeredness upon which internalized virtues can grow and prosper. (Colossians 1:4)

The “Christ-in-you” virtue of generosity is fueled by a FAITH in the assurance that we are forgiven; fostered by a LOVE that binds Christians together; enhanced by a HOPE in the ultimate gift of eternal life before and after this body dies. #1

The “Christ-in you” virtue of tolerance enables us to see ourselves in other people, in other situations, and to realize that we are in this life together, EVEN IF, we strongly disagree. #2

Tolerance does NOT mean compromising Biblical and doctrinal standards. Taking a stand on that which is Biblically non-negotiable may be, at times, necessary, but a Christ-In- You tolerance must be expressed charitably, and in forbearance with each other.

#3 Colossians 1:13 If the virtue of forgiveness is not natural, then it must be SUPERnatural and Holy Spirit ‑ driven.

Just as the virtue of TOLERANCE should not be confused with APATHY, neither should the virtue of FORGIVENESS be confused with CONDONING.

Colossians 1:27 GENEROSITY TOLERANCE FORGIVENESS.

The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer OUR FATHER, WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME. THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE, ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD, AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS; AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL. FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY FOREVER AMEN.

OUR OFFERING As A Tangible Expression Of Our Gratitude To God, We Joyfully Offer Our Monetary Gifts To Financially Support God's Work At Bayshore Gardens Community Church

OFFERTORY MUSIC “BE STILL MY SOUL” Harriet Hoeksema, organist

“BE STILL MY SOUL” Be still, my soul; the Lord is on your side; Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; Leave to your God to order and provide; In every change He faithful will remain. Be still, my soul; your best, your heavenly, Friend, Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

THE DOXOLOGY PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW; PRAISE HIM ALL CREATURES HERE BELOW; PRAISE HIM ABOVE YE HEAVENLY HOST; PRAISE FATHER, SON AND HOLY GHOST. AMEN

**THE CLOSING HYMN TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS [ All who are able please stand ]

O soul, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see? There’s light for a look at the Savior, And life more abundant and free! Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting He passed, and we follow Him there; O’er us sin no more hath dominion— For more than conqu’rors we are! Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.

His Word shall not fail you He promised; Believe Him, and all will be well: Then go to a world that is dying, His perfect salvation to tell! Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.

THE PASTORAL BENEDICTION Go forth from this place as God’s elect and covenant people... AMEN
