4 OACB Quality of Life Coach A Quality of Life Coach focuses on being a success partner who supports their organization & co-workers in improving the quality of services they deliver to people with intellectual & developmental disabilities. 4

6 Objective #1: Participants will be introduced to the role & expectations of a Quality of Life Coach A- A Quality of Life Coach engages in the practice of supporting a person they serve by supporting & guiding team members & co-workers through a series of learning experiences paired with tools to influence beliefs, practices & actions (Must Haves). 6

7 Objective #1: Participants will be introduced to the role & expectations of a Quality of Life Coach B- A Qol Coach will use a range of learning experiences & tools to help DD professionals shift their perspectives and thereby discover different solutions to support the people they serve to achieve their hopes & dreams. 7

8 Objective #1: Participants will be introduced to the role & expectations of a Quality of Life Coach C-The Quality of Life Coach asks questions and challenges members of the service delivery system to find answers from within himself/herself based on their values, preferences and past experiences. 8

9 9 D- OACB QoL Coach facilitators will provide positive support & feedback to their co-worker & members of their organization. Feedback will include gently addressing the brutal facts of service delivery models & professional actions that are not respectful. One of the key outcomes of an OACB QoL Coach is to improve the personal effectiveness of DD professionals while impacting the well being of people served by the organization. 10 Objective # 1: Participants will be introduced to the role & expectations of a Quality of Life Coach E- Additional outcomes of a QoL Coach are to enhance strategic thinking, positively dealing with conflict, and building an effective team An OACB QoL Coach may use engaging questions for self-assessment & reflection. The Coach facilitates discussion to enable DD professionals & teams to take action to help people they serve to have an improved quality of life. 10

11 Objective #1: Participants will be introduced to the role & expectations of a Quality of Life Coach F- The QoL Coach will assist & facilitate DD professionals to engage in self-assessment that results in actions & practices that will help the people we serve to have an improved quality of life. The Stretch Zone requires intentional & purposeful self- assessment & critical thinking. Moving into the “Stretch Zone” requires a deliberate & disciplined focus 13

15 Stretch Zone-A Place that can lead to Opportunity & Success Being in the Stretch Zone means we challenge our self & organizations to become comfortable with the uncomfortable. In the Stretch Zone, Pink Bat thinking is the focus where problems are turned into solutions 15

16 Stretch Zone-A Place that can lead to Opportunity & Success The Stretch Zone is the place where we challenge ourselves & organizations to use “Floodlight Vision” to stretch to new opportunities, possibilities & solutions The Stretch Zone requires professionals to be purposeful & intentional about wearing the Green Hat of respectful supports. 16

17 Coach Learning Experience # 3 Must Have Tools of a Quality of Life Coach Green Hat A Quality of Life Coach is intentional about wearing a Green Hat. The purpose of the Green Hat is to create clarity and focus for each professional to be supportive, positive, optimistic and focused on supporting people we serve to have a good life. When wearing the conceptual Green Hat a professional will: Focus on Respect First Openly display appreciation for others Ask thoughtful questions Look for solutions Focus on win-win outcomes Use a Beginners' Mind approach 17

18 Coach Learning Experience # 3 Beginners Mind When using the “Beginners Mind” concept everything is possible Accept what is happening but keep focused on possibility A small child learning to walk is a great example of a “Beginners Mind”, falling down is not failure it is the beginning of possibility and success 18

19 Coach Learning Experience # 3 Pink Bat Thinking & Choices The “Beginners Mind” approach will align with Pink Bat Michael McMillan reminds us that “You can live each in a world filled with “problems” or rise each morning & embrace a world filled with unseen solutions…eager for you to find them. The decision is yours***both worlds exist. The one you choose is the one you create. Are you willing to choose & create a culture where Quality of Life for people we serve is the focus and the world we want to create 19

20 Coach Learning Experience # 3 Eat the Frog Being Comfortable with the Uncomfortable Being able to grow & become effective is all part of being in the Stretch Zone Being able to become comfortable with uncomfortable situations is a key to growth One way to learn to become comfortable with the uncomfortable is learning to Eat the Frog 20

21 Coach Learning Experience # 3 Must Have Tools of a Quality of Life Coach Gentle Gentle Wind One way to become comfortable with the uncomfortable is being exposed to a Gentle Wind A “ Gentle Wind” can be seen and felt in nature A “Gentle Wind” helps us learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable A “Gentle Wind” helps us move into & stay in the ‘Stretch Zone” 21

22 Flood Light Vision (Possibility Focused) The view is larger & extended The range of vision is very wide and focused on the long term The focus is future oriented The details are not clearly focused yet Learning to be comfortable with the uncomfortable keeps our “Floodlight Vision’ 22
