Marrow tissue found inside bones Red Marrow – produces white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets Yellow Marrow – made of fat that replaces red marrow as person ages

Extension Movement of a joint that increases the angle of the joint (RELAX)

Flexion The bending movement that decreases the angle of a bone joint (CONTRACT)

Bones Organs that contain two types of tissue: Compact Bone – the hard outer layer of bone Spongy Bone – the interior region of the bone that contains many holes

Periosteum Outside covering of bone Periosteum

Cartilage Stiff, flexible tissue that is part of the skeletal system.

Ligaments Connective tissue that holds bones together at many joints

Tendons Connective tissue that attaches skeletal muscle to bone

Muscles There are 3 types of muscles, that help your body with movement in different ways. Skeletal Muscle – works with the skeletal system and helps your move Cardiac Muscle – found only in the heart, continually contracts and relaxes to move blood throughout your body Smooth Muscle – found in organs such as the stomach, bladder, and blood vessels; moves materials through your body
