1 2009 Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) Awards July 30, 2009

2  Environmental Leadership Program ( ELP): The ELP is a voluntary partnership program with businesses, municipalities, non-governmental organizations, federal entities, schools and universities, and community organizations designed to promote a cleaner and better environment for Louisiana. Any Louisiana entity that fits into one of the above categories and is committed to improving the quality of Louisiana’s environment is eligible to join.  ELP Award Categories include: Pollution Prevention (P2) Programs/Projects and Community Environmental Outreach

3  Pollution Prevention :  34,409,974 pounds (lbs) of pollutants were removed including: Sodium Chloride Brine, CO 2 Emissions, PM 10, SO 2, NOx, Sulfuric/Hydrochloric Acid, Spent Catalyst, Spent Caustic, Indeterminate Phase Sludge, Hazardous Waste, Lithium Batteries, Nitrates, etc.  Reduction in Wastewater Discharge Capacity and Diesel Fuel Consumption :  25,000 gallons/day or 9,125,000 gallons/year of waste water  18,000 gallons/year of diesel fuel  Recycling of Materials :  2,000,000 cubic yards of wood waste were reused  4,300 cubic yards of asphalt were reused  3,111,341 pounds of materials were recycled including: E-waste, spent catalyst, hazardous waste, Christmas trees, lithium batteries, filtercake, etc.

Pollutants include: Sodium Chloride Brine, CO 2 Emissions, PM 10, SO 2, NOx, Sulfuric/Hydrochloric Acid, Spent Catalyst, Spent Caustic, Indeterminate Phase Sludge, Hazardous Waste, Lithium Batteries, Nitrates, etc.

5 Reduction in Waste Water Discharge Capacity and Diesel Fuel Consumption Totaled 9,143,000 Gallons  ELP Member Amount (gals)  CellXion 9,125,000  Monsanto 18,000  Waste water discharge capacity was reduced by 25,000 gallons/day or 9,125,000 gallons/year due to improvements to the waste water treatment system  Diesel fuel consumption was reduced by 18,000 gallons/year due to elimination of the need to transport catalyst off-site for regeneration.

6 Recycling of Materials: Total Cubic Yards Reused Totaled 2,004,300  ELP Member Amount  Natural Resources Recovery 2,000,000  BASF 4,300  2,000,000 cubic yards of woody debris were reused in the following manner: bio-fuel, landscape material, erosion control and recaptured as saw logs/pulp wood  4,300 cubic yards asphalt reused as shoulder dressing

7 Recycling of Materials: Total Pounds Recycled Totaled 3,111,341  ELP MemberAmount (lbs)  Capital Area Corp Recycling 2,106,240  Baker Petrolite 551,581  Mead Westvaco 350,000  Valero Refining 90,820  Fort Polk 12,700  Recycled materials included: E-waste, spent catalyst, hazardous waste, Christmas trees, lithium batteries, filtercake, etc.

8 COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTAL OUTREACH INITIATIVES  45,000 community members attended Earth Day 2008 in Baton Rouge  2,700 POTW operators were certified across the state  Community-Industry Partnerships resulted in preservation, conservation, restoration, recycling initiatives, and the construction of a Habitat for Humanity Home
