Hello and welcome to the University of Hertfordshire’s first Online Open Day for the BA (Hons) Business Administration course. My name is Karen Trimarchi and I am the programme tutor for the course. Don’t forget to use the chat facility to ask any questions you have as this is the best opportunity for you to voice your concerns or clear any doubts you have about studying online. What to expect when you study online and Support available BA Programme of study E-resources, Studynet and assessment methods Entry requirements and fees Q&A I will begin this presentation by providing you an introduction to the University and the Business School together with what you can expect from the course and the support available, rounding up with the programme of study. Carol will give you further information about the Learning Resource available, the use of Studynet and assessment methods. We will stop the presentation here to give you the opportunity to ask any questions on the course To round up the session, Hamad, who is our Admissions Tutor will provide you with details of the entry requirements and fees. You will then have a final opportunity to place any other queries you have before the panel.

6 What to expect when you study online
Learning resources available through Studynet Modules with fixed start and end dates Fixed dates for assignment submission and other assessments Other than that you can fit study around work and family Commitment: Full-time study: 20 – 30 hrs / week Part-time study: 10 – 15 hrs /week When you study online, it gives you the opportunity to study when, where and how you want. This makes it possible for you to work it round your work, family and social commitments. However you must also manage your time effectively in order to meet the deadlines for assignments and other assessments. The modules run based on semesters and there is a fixed start and end date. To do well we would encourage students to set aside between 10 to 15 hrs per week for completing the online modules.

This is divided into Programme, Module and University level. At Programme Level …. I will also be your port of call if you have any concerns regarding your ability to cope with online learning. My role is to support you, wherever possible, in order for you to succeed. In each module you will have a module leader or tutor who will be organising a weekly online session which we would encourage you to attend. As the course is an online course and you have no face to face contact with your peers, there will be opportunities for you to develop an online community through discussion forums on Studynet or other social media networks. If you have any admissions, registration or technical issues, the staff at UH Online will be able to help you.

The course will give you a thorough understanding of business and management practices at local, national and international levels; Prepares you for a career in business and management - the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to take your place in the thriving computing industry, Develop your practical transferable skills within a global context - a solid foundation for a wide range of other careers or further study

As you can see from the list, you will be developing an understanding of business across a range of topics with two specific modules at Levels 4 and 5 that will help you understand yourself, identify your key skills and the opportunities you have for employment. These modules are Business Professional and Enhancing Employability. There is an international flavour to the curriculum as globalisation has increased the need for understanding the global environment and the context within which international businesses are expanding. I will now hand you over to Carol who will provide you an overview of the E-resources, Studynet and assessment methods used in the course.

19 Entry Requirements UK entry at level-4
300 UCAS points from A-levels or equivalent in any subject; plus GCSE grade A-C or equivalent in Maths and English. Direct entry at level-6 A range of qualifications worth 240 credit points including HND, Foundation Degree, and more. English not your first language? Level 4 entry – IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent Level 6 entry – IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent.

Have an enquiring mind Have an interest in studying a range of modules to strengthen: your employability prospects your business knowledge You don’t need prior business knowledge But should be interested in pursuing a career in business Self-motivated and keen to continuously improve yourself If you have met the necessary entry requirements, you might then ask yourself if a Business degree is what you want. This is an important question to set you thinking about your future, what you can do to get progress in your chosen career and how you can get there. As tutors on the course, we look forward to teaching students who are keen to learn, have an enquiring mind and are not afraid to make mistakes or ask questions. A Business degree is useful in almost every aspect of your life, look around you and you will see all kinds of businesses meeting our individual needs, be it private, public or voluntary.
