15 Contrast Between Engineers and Scientists Work 1. The Engineer searches the answers to similar questions, but always with an application in mind. 2. The Scientist searches the answers to questions to understand why a phenomenon occurs. 15 Copyright Texas Education Agency (TEA)

16 Comparison Between Engineers and Scientists Ask Questions 1. The Scientists are always asking why. They are interested in increasing their knowledge base. 2. 23 Emerging Engineering Fields What is Biomedical Engineering? Biomedical engineering is a fast-growing field, as well as a wide-ranging one. Biomedical engineers combine knowledge of biology and medicine with engineering principles and practices to develop devices and procedures that solve medical and health-related problems. 23 Copyright Texas Education Agency (TEA)

24 Emerging Engineering Fields What is Chemical Engineering? Chemical engineers are in great demand in many different kinds of industries. Of all the disciplines, chemical engineers have the highest average starting salary of $65,466. For example, pharmaceutical companies such as Novartis and Pfizer need chemical engineers to create new medicines. 25 Emerging Engineering Fields What is Civil Engineering? Civil engineers are everywhere and work in many areas essential to modern life. 26 Emerging Engineering Fields What is Computer Engineering? Microchips are embedded in everything from toasters to telephones, so many industries need computer engineers. The branch of engineering that deals with the technology of electricity, especially the design and application of circuitry and equipment for power generation and distribution, machine control, and communications. 27 Copyright Texas Education Agency (TEA)

28 Emerging Engineering Fields What is Genetic Engineering? It is a branch of biology. It focuses on making food, animals and plants better adapted to the need of humans. It does this by tweaking genes. 29 Emerging Engineering Fields What is Geological Engineering? Geological Engineering combines the fields of Geology and Engineering in a way that makes a lot of sense: major study is how human beings can put the earth to safe and efficient use. For example, they learn how to evaluate a site on which a tunnel, dam, or road might be built. It is a profession dedicated to designing, implementing, and modifying software so that it is of higher quality, more affordable, maintainable, and faster to build.
