3. A Brief History of STM In 1999 The Taiwanese Journal for Philosophy and History of Science was split in two journals (philosophy and STS). The Taiwanese Journal for Studies of Science, Technology and Medicine （ or the STM ，科 技‧醫療與社會 ） was founded in 2001.
