7 Religion in Java Religion in Java Java has a population of 135 million. 88.3 per cent of these are “officially” Muslim. The remainder are Roman Catholics, Protestants, or Buddhists. In South Central Java there are recent converts to Hinduism. Only 5-10 per cent follow Agami(religion) Islam Santri with 30 per cent following Agami Jawi. The rest are only nominal Muslims called abangan, whose religion is based more on animism, mysticism, Javanese Hinduism and Javanese Buddhism. 16 Focus’s *Evangelism/Discipleship in the Local Church -Teach Sunday School -Work side by side with church ministries and outreach to villages -Teach weekly Bible studies -Teach side by side with local pastors *Building relationships with the local people to earn their trust so that I can share Christ with them. *Translation and Distribution: -Christian literature that will be helpful to have in the Indonesian language by Stonecroft. -Since 2011 have had translated and started distribution of 6 Bible study books with local help.
