7. What did Jesus demand? A righteousness GREATER than the Pharisees Theirs may be legitimate but external Jesus deals with the root of the problem...the attitude that leads to the actions Jesus refers to the Pharisees quoting of Scripture “You have heard it said...” “But I tell you...” [we are going to deal with the root cause]

8. What is the root cause of failing in the moral law? It’s not what we do! That is the symptom. It’s our attitude towards other people. Be it our enemies; neighbours; family; spouses Righteousness is ultimately the expression of the character of God The demand of Jesus is a work from the inside out cf. Matt. 23:25-28

9. When we become the right person inwardly, we are then able to do the right things with moral integrity. How? Next time!
