DISCUSSION GUIDE 2.How did Jesus react to this criticism? (Luke 11:17-20) Jesus suggested that it would be foolish to think that a demon was expelled from a person through the power of the prince of demons. “A house divided against itself will fall.”

DISCUSSION GUIDE 4.What happens to a person if an evil spirit is cast out of him/her and is replaced with nothing? (Luke 11:25-26) The evil spirit will return with seven other spirits more evil than itself to dwell within the person. The final condition is worse than the first.

(Luke 11:31-32) The Queen of the South is fit to judge because she came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom. The men of Nineveh are fit to judge because the repented when they heard Jonah’s message. 15 DISCUSSION GUIDE 11.What happens when one’s eyes are good? How about when they are bad? (Luke 11:34) When the eyes are good the body is full of light but when they are bad the body is full of darkness.

DISCUSSION GUIDE 12.Why did Jesus use the illustration of light and darkness?

DISCUSSION GUIDE 13.What was surprising to Jesus’ host? (Luke 11:38) Jesus’ host was surprised when he noticed that Jesus did not wash before the meal.

DISCUSSION GUIDE 14.Jesus told the Pharisee that he emphasized one thing and overlooked another. What did the Pharisee emphasize and overlook? (Luke 11:39-40) The Pharisee emphasized the cleanliness of the outside while overlooking the filth on the inside.

DISCUSSION GUIDE 15.Why do you think that Jesus said “woe” six times?

DISCUSSION GUIDE 16.When Jesus left them what two things did the Pharisees start to do? (Luke 11:53-54) When Jesus left them the Pharisees and teachers of the law began to: a. Fiercely oppose Jesus b. Ask many questions in hopes that they might trap Jesus

“How do you think that the church will do when judged by God?” 1.Would God see that his people have been actively involved in sharing the good news about Jesus? Would God find that his people have become very comfortable with their own sinfulness? Would God be pleased with our commitment to him or will he find that his place is far down on our list of priorities? 2.If God were judging his church today would he find us asking for signs while, at the same time, failing to have a personal Bible study and prayer time?

“How do you think that the church will do when judged by God?” 3.Would God find his people’s hearts hard, dull and rebellious? 4.If God were to judge his church today would he find it full of hypocrites who, like the Pharisees of his day, were like whitewashed tombs – looking great on the outside but full of dead men’s bones?
