Significant Figures Review page Zeros do not count if they are behind a number and there is no decimal point. Remember when there is a decimal point, the zero could be significant. ***Find a decimal in a number, find the first significant figure in that number and that number and those that follow are all significant.

Scientific notation This is the standard form for scientific notation M x 10 n M has to be a number between 1 and 10. If n is a negative number, the number is smaller than 1. Move decimal to the left for standard form. If n is a positive number, the number is bigger than 1. Move the decimal to the right for standard form.
