Ms. Debbie Cutler Operating Agent Representative, Energy Technology Data Exchange (DOE Office of Scientific and Technical Information) Energy Technology Data Exchange ETDE/ETDEWEB Update 36 th Consultative INIS Liaison Officers Meeting Vienna, Austria 4-5 October 2012

ETDE is a collaboration among countries, like INIS. It is under the International Energy Agency framework. Just as the main product for INIS is its INISDB, ETDE has the ETDE World Energy Base, or ETDEWEB. Members contribute to the database, and share costs. ETDE scope is much broader than INIS; ETDE and INIS cooperate to benefit members who participate in both. Thus, ETDE and INIS cooperate on many of the authorities and try to have similar input preparation guidance; JTC meetings discuss common issues and we benefit from each others’ experiences. ETDE is governed by an Executive Committee and managed by an Operating Agent, located in Oak Ridge, TN USA Briefly, about ETDE

1974-1986 Bilateral agreements between countries to exchange information 1987 Multilateral agreement formed under IEA IA framework 1999 ETDEWEB debuted with opening ceremony at the IEA in Paris with ~ 600,000 records (Today, over 4.7 million) 2004 Opened free access to developing countries; also available onsite at IEA and at the IAEA 2006-present Enhancements: Federated Search, alerts, DOI links and OpenURL, domain recognition, search narrowing by subject, citation translation, widget, popular topics, and Google presence Brief History/Major Milestones

Currently streamlining processing flow at the Operating Agent Will be looking at open access resources to see if harvesting of some sites may reduce member input preparation costs Looking forward to further cooperation with INIS Encourage additional countries to join ETDE and be part of its future Next ExCo meeting is May or June 2013 in Norway ETDE’s Future
