6 World leader Today, Nokia is still the world’s number one manufacturer of mobile phones, and one of the leading makers of mobile networks. A new President In 2006, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, formerly Nokia’s Chief Financial Officer, took over as CEO from Jorma Ollila, who became chairman of Nokia’s Board of Directors. The next step: Nokia Siemens Networks The next step in Nokia’s continuing evolution is already under way. In June 2006, Nokia and Siemens announced plans to merge Nokia’s networks business and the carrier-related operations of Siemens into a new company, to be called Nokia Siemens Networks. Nokia’s future As mobile usage grows in the world’s emerging markets, Nokia will continue to develop affordable mobile devices that can contribute to increased economic growth and quality of life. At the same time, mobile communications is converging with computing, digital imaging and the internet, making it possible for people to use handheld devices for filming video, listening to music, playing games, surfing the web and more.
