4 5 Themes of Geography "Where are we?"   is the question that the theme Location answers.

5 5 Themes of Geography Location may be absolute or it may be relative.  These locations, whether relative or absolute, may be of people or places.

6 5 Themes of Geography An absolute location is a latitude and longitude (a global location) or a street address (local location). It contains a number. 

7 5 Themes of Geography The latitude and longitude of Winston-Salem, North Carolina is: 36° 5' 59" N / 80° 14' 39" W

8 5 Themes of Geography Paris, France is 48 degrees north latitude and 2 degrees east longitude

Formal regions are those defined by government.

52 5 Themes of Geography There are physical regions, too. (i. e., The Rockies, the Great Lakes States, the Piedmont).

53 5 Themes of Geography A region is an area that displays unity in terms of the government, language, culture, or possibly the landform.
