What on earth am I here for? Acts 8:26-40

We are here to complete an assignment A Christian without an assignment is like a fish out of water… it’s just a matter of time before it stops breathing.

What does it look like? What is it? How can it be effective?

What does it look like? Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” So he started out… Acts 8:26-27a

What does it look like? Unquestioned obedience to the leading of the Spirit

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

What is it? …and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”)…

What is it? This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Acts 8:27b-29

Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” What is it?

So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading: What is it?

“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth. In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.”

What is it? The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. Acts 8:30-35 Introducing Jesus

In Word He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation…” Mark 16:15

In Deeds In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

How can it be effective? The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. Acts 8:34-35 Study God’s word!

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer (apologian) to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect… 2 Peter 3:15

What on earth am I here for? To complete our assignment  Obedience to the leading of the Spirit  Introduce Jesus  Study God’s word!
