1 Road Trip! Holidays are almost here. Your family has decided to go on a road trip for two weeks and are letting you decide where you will go! You will need to plan the trip for you and your family including the destination, travel, entertainment and accommodation. Make sure you don’t go over budget!!

2 Budget You will have a budget of $50,000
for your trip. This needs to cover the following items: Purchase of a car Fuel Accommodation for 13 nights for your whole family Entertainment

3 Buy or Hire Your Car! Are you going to buy a car for your road trip or will you hire one? Research information about both and decide which option would be best for you. Record: The type of car you will purchase/hire The cost (if hiring, record the cost per day, calculate the cost for the 14 days. Don’t forget to include the cost of insurance) The type of fuel the car uses (unleaded, diesel etc. If it is unleaded, check if it requires regular or premium). How many kilometres you get per tank How many litres the fuel tank holds.

4 Where will you and your family go?
Plan Your Destination! Where will you and your family go? Things to consider… You have two weeks - this includes the time travelling to and from your destination. You don’t want to spend your whole time travelling You want a destination where there is plenty to entertain you and your family After deciding your destination, use Google Maps find out the directions, distance in kilometres and get a map.

5 How far will you travel each day?
Plan your trip! How far will you travel each day? When planning this, consider the town you will be stopping over each night, make sure they have the facilities you need. Record: For each day record the name of the town where you will begin and where you will travel to. The distance travelled each day. You will need to do this for your trip up and back! It may be different as you may like to stop for more than one night in some places on your way to your destination. How many nights you will spend at your destination.

6 Fuel! Now you know where you will be travelling to and the distance, it is time to work out how much fuel you will need and the cost. You will need to work out: How many litres of fuel you will use. How many times you will need to fill your fuel tank. The total cost of fuel for your trip (using today’s fuel prices)

7 Plan where you will stay for each night of your holiday
Accommodation! Plan where you will stay for each night of your holiday Record: The name of the place you will stay each night and the type of accommodation it is (motel, cabin etc). The cost for your whole family for each night. The total cost for all 13 nights for your whole family.

8 How will you entertain your family?
Entertainment! How will you entertain your family? Record: Each activity or place you will visit. The cost of admission per person and total cost for your family.

9 In a table, record all of your costs and calculate the total cost.
