5 4 Eligibility 4 types of children’s eligibility DDS determines eligibility for first three:  Global Developmental Delay – birth – 4 th birthday  Significant Developmental Disability 5- 17th birthday  Autism Waiver – Significant Developmental Disability – namely an autism spectrum disorder – ages birth – 8 th birthday and meet Level of Care for Intermediate Care Facility for individuals with intellectual disability  Autism Division – verification of autism spectrum disorder  DDS does not charge fees for any service for children  DDS tracks children with significant developmental disabilities but does not track by specific developmental disability

6 5  1:1 behavioral, social & communication interventions through Expanded Educational Habilitation Services: 6-10 hours per week  Community integration activities, respite, family training  Home & vehicle modification  Expanded Educational Habilitation Services limited to 3 years or until age 9; ancillary supports available until age 9  Autism Support Centers & Support Brokers  New as of October 2010: OT, PT, Speech Therapy & Behavioral Supports & consultation  Participant Directed Service model Number Served 130 at any point in time - 170/year (unduplicated count) Reserved capacity for 3yr olds 580 applications in 10 days in 2010 1146 applications in 10 days in 2007 DDS – Autism Services Waiver Initiated: October 2007; 5 year Renewal: October 2010 Services

9 8 GAPS  Individuals with Higher Functioning Autism and Aspergers are rarely eligible for DDS services  Development of services for Higher Functioning Autism and Aspergers individuals  Expansion of Autism Waiver both in terms of numbers of children who can participate and an expansion of the age limits  The need to develop continuity of services for children – birth – age 17
