2 What is FCCLA? Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
The only student-led organization with the family as its central focus. It was known as FHA (Future Homemakers of America) prior to 1999. The organization was founded on June 11, 1945. Males and females are welcomed into the organization. Each year over 200,000 students join over 10,000 chapters in 50 state associations as well as District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The organization encourages personal growth and leadership development in teens through Family and Consumer Sciences Education.

19 Officer Academy (USA) Leadership Training
FCCLA Ultimate Officer Academy (USA) Leadership Training Phase I –held at the national leadership conference Phase II - held in the Washington D.C. Metro Area in September/October. Phase II is composed of four days of intensive training, meetings, planning, and exercises designed to launch the ultimate leadership experience for chapter, region and state officers.

FCCLA Ultimate Officer Academy (USA) Leadership Training Chapter and state officers will have the incredible experience of touring our nation’s capital. Officers who schedule meetings with their Congressional representatives in advance will receive public affairs training. Chapter, regional, and state officers will also join the newly elected national officers in working together to serve the needs of thousands of members and chapters across America.

21 Career Connection Career Connection is a national FCCLA program that guides young people to link their options and skills for success in careers, families, and communities. Through individual, cooperative, and competitive activities, members discover their strengths target career goals initiate a plan for achieving the lifestyle they desire

22 Community Service Projects
To help members strengthen their community service projects, this program: helps young people build skills for family, career, and community roles provides youth-centered learning experiences related to Family and Consumer Sciences Education encourages young people to develop the positive character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship

23 Dynamic Leadership Dynamic Leadership is a national FCCLA program that helps young people build leadership skills. It provides information, activities, and project ideas to help young people: learn about leadership recognize the lifelong benefits of leadership strength practice leadership through FCCLA involvement become strong leaders for families, careers, and communities

24 Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety (FACTS)
Participants improve traffic safety in their community by reducing impaired driving and increasing seatbelt usage.

25 Families First Through the Families First peer education program, young people learn to be strong family members. Families First Units: Families Today: understand and celebrate families You-Me-Us: strengthen family relationships Meet the Challenge: overcome obstacles together Balancing Family and Career: manage multiple responsibilities Parent Practice: learn to nurture children

26 Financial Fitness Financial Fitness is a national FCCLA peer education program that involves teens teaching teens how to make, save, and spend money wisely. This program empowers youth to educate their peers in the following areas: Banking Basics Cash Control Making Money Financing your future Consumer Clout

27 Japanese Exchange Here’s an opportunity to live in Japan next summer with a Japanese host family. You can be one of 17 FCCLA members selected to experience a Japanese tea ceremony, traditional Japanese foods, or climb up Mount Fuji with a Japanese brother or sister. This is a summer you will never forget!

28 Leaders At Work Leaders At Work is a national program that recognizes FCCLA members who create projects to strengthen leadership skills on the job. These skills contribute to success across a broad range of career fields. Leaders At Work motivates students to prepare for career success.

29 Power of One Power of One is an exciting, self-directed program that lets you set goals for yourself and work to achieve them through five fun, activity-filled units. A Better You- (example) eating nutritiously Family Ties-(example) strengthening communication between family members Working on Working- (example) obtaining a job Take the Lead- (example) public speaking to a group Speak Out for FCCLA- (example) organizing National FCCLA week activities and promoting the organization

30 Student Body Student Body addresses three units. Members may complete projects in one or several units: Eat Right — Explore good nutrition, eating disorders, healthy snacks, supplements, vegetarianism, and more Be Fit — Take action related to lifelong exercise habits, obesity, sports training, and other topics Make Healthy Choices— Choose a positive lifestyle by avoiding drugs, alcohol, and tobacco; managing stress; building self esteem; and practicing good character.

31 STAR Events Students Taking Action with Recognition, STAR Events, are competitive events that build proficiency and achievement in leadership and job-related skills. There are 18 different events in which students can compete. The top 6 winners from each event category at the Region level advance to the state competition. The 1st place winner at state travels to the national meeting to compete for gold, silver, or bronze awards. The top 3 teams in Culinary Arts advance to state from region competition.

32 STOP the Violence Students Taking on Prevention is a peer-to-peer outreach initiative that empowers young people to recognize, report and reduce the potential for youth violence. The goals of the project are to: Empower students with attitudes, skills, and resources to make their school safer. Reduce the potential for youth violence in schools with the trained FCCLA chapters.

33 Ready, Set, Read! A literacy project designed for
chapter members to help children improve reading skills. Ready, Set, Read! can be used to participate in STAR events, such as Chapter Service Project. Project Ideas: Read to children or adults Conduct a Book Drive Donate Books to local Boys and Girls Club

34 FCCLA SAVES READ AND $AVE
A peer education project to encourage individuals to start saving for their future! READ AND $AVE Chapter members work with young people using Sammy Rabbit books to teach children the importance of reading and saving their money!

35 State Proficiency Events
Texas has two state events which students can compete: Serving Up Success -members show proficiency in seating, taking orders, serving and presenting the bill to guests. Stories That Teach- members present a prepared lesson plan using an age-appropriate story.

38 Consumer Math - LEO The content questions cover area of:
Members will answer consumer math related questions during the quiz. The content questions cover area of: Basic Culinary Math Housing/Interior Design Banking/Investments 38

39 Consumer Quiz- LEO Members will answer consumer related questions. The content questions focus on five key areas of consumer knowledge that teens need to know to function effectively and confidently in today’s marketplace:  personal finance; health and safety; the environment; technology; consumer rights and responsibilities; 39

41 FCCLA Creed, Mission and Purposes - LEO
Participants will need to know the FCCLA creed as it is nationally adopted. Participants will also be tested on their knowledge of the 8 FCCLA Purposes and the Mission Statement. 41

42 Etiquette - LEO Participants will demonstrate basic knowledge of proper etiquette by answering questions during a quiz related to meal and social etiquette. 42

43 Hospitality - LEO Participants will demonstrate basic knowledge and skills related to the hospitality industry. 43

44 Interior Design - LEO Members will answer questions related to interior design including: Principles and Elements of Design Color Furniture Placement Traffic Patterns 44

45 Job Interview - LEO Participants will answer interview etiquette questions related to: Dress Interviewing Skills Resumes Follow up 45

46 Parliamentary Procedure - LEO
Participants will demonstrate basic parliamentary knowledge by answering objective questions. Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised is the official FCCLA parliamentary procedure authority. 46

47 STEP 1 - LEO Participants will demonstrate basic knowledge of FCCLA including organization history and national programs. 47

48 Scholarships Family, Career and Community Leaders of America offers scholarships to students planning to major in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) and other disciplines.  Applicants must have been a member of the Texas Association, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.  A standard application form for scholarships processed through the state office, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is used. 

49 Meetings Fall Leadership Meetings- regional officers conduct meeting in the fall to help members learn about FCCLA and meet members from other schools in the area. LEO’s can be taken. Regional Meetings – five regional meetings held in Texas between January and March. Take LEOs, participate in STAR/Proficiency Events, and learn from concurrent sessions. State Leadership Conference- usually held in April in a Texas city. Participate in leadership sessions, LEO’s, STAR/Proficiency Events, general sessions, and special community service projects. 49

50 FCCLA Magazine Teen Times is FCCLA members’ national magazine with coverage of teen issues and chapter ideas. Members receive four issues each year.
