Educational Networking Kristie Johnson EDLD 5362 April 24, 2011

What is Educational Networking? “A network is a way to share information or move it among locations efficiently and effectively. Electronic technologies can transport text, images, video and voice if the network is coordinated, integrated, accessible and compliant with common industry Standards(Mathews p. 3)”. Why Statewide Educational Networks are important to State and Educational Leaders. J.B. Mathews (p.3)

Choosing Networks “When considering which technology accelerators your school district is going to implement, you must consider the potential return on investment, particularly as it relates to student learning and your district‘s strategic goals (The Five Best Accelerators in Schools p.2).” The Five Best Accelerators in Schools. By: Moore, Robert J., School Administrator, 00366439, Aug2006, Vol. 63, Issue 7

Primary School Teaching Primary School Teaching is a site made exclusively for Primary School Teachers. There are over 10,000 teaching resources submitted by users, suitable for Foundation stage through to Key Stage 2. The ultimate aim is to make finding the right resources as easy as possible so that teachers don't have to waste their valuable time! Primary School Teaching is a site for teachers to share resources, lesson plans and other teaching materials.

Primary School Teaching Examples of Available Resources Learning Games Resource Websites Teachers Blogs Teaching Resources: Foundation Key stage 1 Key stage 2 Misc. Tweeting Teachers Web2 resources

Primary School Teaching in my Classroom This Networking tool would be beneficial for me in my classroom because it involves all primary levels. It lays the foundation level and progresses through several stages at the Primary level. This will allow me to differentiate teach as well as include this site with RTI strategies.

iTeach Mobile iTeach Mobile is a community of educators exploring the use of mobile technologies such as cell phones, iPods, & hand held game systems in the classroom

Why iTeach Mobile? http://www.vuvox.com/collage/detail/019d4c0 600 http://www.vuvox.com/collage/detail/019d4c0 600 “Wireless capacity. A second accelerator that every school district should be deploying today is wireless networking capabilities, also known as Wi-Fi. When combined with notebook and with hand-held computers with Wi-Fi capabilities, wireless connectivity gives students, teachers and administrators unprecedented flexibility for when and where they do their work (The Five Best Accelerators in Schools p.2)”.

iTeach Mobile Use of a cell phone to text or communicate with parents during the school day: "I think they'll have a hard time getting it away from teachers once they've had the access. The same with parents. I really believe with parents that, once they have access, it becomes an integrated part of planning instruction and parent communication so you can't take it away.“ (A Homegrown Design for Data Warehousing p.5) Most cell phones have internet capability The iPhone currently has over 200,000 apps: one of the apps will give you access to over 32,000 book Thompson, Terry j. & Gould, Karen j. A Homegrown Design for Data Warehousing. School Administrator; Apr2005, Vol. 62 Issue 4, p16-23, 7p, 1 color

iTeach Mobile in my Classroom This tool will be beneficial to me in my classroom because it allows to mutliple uses of learning many subjects. The access to multiple apps will be used to differentiate teach as well as promote learning on all levels. Include interactive testing and assessments. Open communication with all stake holders.

Importance of these tools in Education “R. Koper (2004) stated that the introduction of the above instruments in education aimed at: (a) increasing the effectiveness of education, (b) increasing the flexibility and accessibility of education, (c) increasing the attractiveness of education and (d) decreasing the workload for educational staff (or more in general: decreasing the institutional costs) (Semantics, Ontologies and Information Systems in Education: Concerns and Proposals p. 5).”
