2 General Information  Population:5.03 million  Population growth rate:1.448%  Capitol:Xining  Elevation: 3,000 meters above sea level.  Qinghai is a Multi-ethnic province inhabited by 44 ethnic groups.  Qinghai has more than 30 salt lakes with reserves of 70 billion tons.

3 Literature  Unlike our school system here in America, China’s is much different.  Primary-school  Junior-Middle-school  Senior-Middle-school  University and Collage  Total population of age 15 and over who are illiterate or semi-illiertrate: 1.55million (male:560,000 female: 990,000)

4 Literature  The school days have 7, forty five minute classes per day, they take science, history, etc.  Usually the U.S. schools have one or more elective, but the Chinese have like two science classes, and they have no varsity sports at the school.  The days are much longer: 8:00 am- classes start. Lunch- 2 hours because students go home for lunch. 2:00pm- students are back for afternoon classes until 5pm. There are 2 hours for dinner, then the students return at 7pm and stay until about 8:30 pm  twelfth graders usually stay until 9 or 9:30pm.  There is also school on Saturday, so they only get one day off instead of having two days off, like we do.

5 Food TTTThe Chinese eat everything, their meals includes; great source of sea food, beef, frog, mutton, chicken, ducks, vegtitables, and of course rice. YYYYou can enjoy western food from bigger cities like Beijing, shanghai, etc. OOOOne of the commonly eaten foods is mutton. Mutton is a famous delicacy of the Qinghai grasslands, and is not only a restaurant dish, but is also food for the herdsmen. Mutton doesn’t need to be cut, or fried so it is ready in about a half an hour. It has a special color, fragrance, taste and form. It can be eaten with hands and is surely delicious. As well as mutton to eat there is also lamb, they kill it then cut large chunks out and usually eat them with mutton.

6 Clothing  The Chinese clothing is usually made out of silk and has beautiful embodied patterns. Chinese clothing is the clothing, ancient, and modern worn by the Chinese people. Over the growing years, it has varied with time and region and has recorded the artifacts of the Chinese culture!

7 Clothing  There is a variation of clothing the Chinese people wear:  Kimono's  Beautiful blouses with elegant skirts  Charming dresses  Original robes  Baby-teens clothing  And the occasional living essentials  And of course the silky pajamas

8 Traditions  Some of the Chinese traditions are similar to ours, or much different.  The Chinese Marriage, the purpose of marriage is to continue the ancestral line and to create alliances between two families. Unlike before, only a few traditions in weddings had survived the centuries and became a part of the modern day weddings. However, there are still families who wish to include traditional practices in their wedding plans. Before the big wedding, Before the wedding, a Chinese bride is isolated with her closest friends. In this custom, the bride-to-be symbolically mourns the loss of family and friends. On her wedding day, the bride is bathed in water which is infused with pomelo in order to cleanse her from bad influences.  The Chinese Marriage, the purpose of marriage is to continue the ancestral line and to create alliances between two families. 9 Other Traditions  Other Chinese Traditions:  Winter Solstice: became a festival during the Han Dynasty, and on this day both Officials and common people have a day of rest. Families present themselves, and bring dishes of food.  They also celebrate Christmas and The New Year.

10 Geography  Qinghai is located on the northeastern part of China.  It’s the third largest city in the world.  Qinghai has lots of, mountains, lakes, flat land and many rolling hills.  The Yellow, Mekong, and Yangtze river originate from all over Qinghai.  The average temperature is -5 to 8 degrees Celsius.
