HAZARDOUS WHEN????? Dangerous or Potentially Harmful to Human Health & or the Environment

HCC EXEMPT HAZARDOUS WASTES Normal household refuse Recycled used oil & filters Recycled scrap metal including wheel weights & lead slugs Recycled fluorescent lamps & ballasts

HCC EXEMPT HAZARDOUS WASTES Recycled oily rags & floor dry Recycled batteries (auto & other) Recycled antifreeze Recycled photographic film Recycled Freon/CFC’s

HAZARDOUS WASTE CATEGORIES Characteristic –Ignitability – based on flash point –Corrosive – based on pH –Lethal – death if ingested –Toxic - posionous –Oxidizer – gives off oxygen in a reaction –Reactive – reacts with water/air Listed F, K, P, U – this is a list established by the MPCA

So What’s Hazardous???? Review HCC’s Waste Management Plan Solvents – auto, diesel, art, refrigeration »IGNITABLE MLT Wastes ( maybe infectious also) »IGNITABLE, CORROSIVE, LETHAL Chemistry Lab Waste »F LISTED

So What’s Hazardous???? Photo Fixer – planetarium & dental »TOXIC Dental Amalgam »TOXIC Biology Stains »IGNITABLE, LETHAL
