FSF 1D Mme Beaugrand Joey Learns French

2 Je me présente! I love: travelling, reading, going to the beach, hanging out with my friends, hiking, running, and of course, French! I dislike: cooking, horror movies, mushrooms and peppers, waiting in line, large crowds I have lived in France and South Korea and traveled to at least 21 countries around the world I earned a black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do when I lived in Korea I moved to Goderich 3 years ago, on the day of the tornado I got married this summer and then traveled to Turkey, Bulgaria and Greece for my honeymoon

3 Black Belt!

6 Course Materials The textbooks will be kept in class
Bring your binder & writing utensils to class EVERYDAY There are dictionaries in class but it is recommended to get your own French-English dictionary to use at home If you have a smart phone or iPod, please download the FREE WORD REFERENCE App. It is a French-English dictionary, and very useful!

7 Le cahier In this class, practice worksheets will be in your cahier. You will need your cahier EVERYDAY in class. the cahier for this class costs $5 – some of you have already paid for it at registration day if you have not paid for your cahier, please bring the $5 tomorrow if you choose not to buy a cahier, you will have to copy out all activities in your binder Since the new curriculum is expected soon, we will build the cahier as we go, adding pages to the cahier for each unit

8 In French, “Je peux…” We focus on things you CAN DO, not what you cannot do We will use authentic materials to build vocabulary and learn about French culture There will be daily oral communication activities to build basic practical literacy skills (introducing self, talking about friends, family and interests, asking questions, etc) This is an opportunity to break the classroom mold, talk to your peers, move around and be ACTIVE, rather than passive – you will only get out of this what you put into it.

9 Je peux…parler en français!
We will begin class everyday with a short speaking activity related to the topic we are studying This daily practice is to help you learn new vocabulary and grammar Speaking assessments in this class will mostly be done spontaneously (with lots of pre-practice). This means you will NOT be reading from a script. The more you practice and participate in class, the more success you will have during assessments. If you choose not to participate, this will be directly reflected in your marks

10 Attendance and Punctuality
You are expected to be in class, on time, everyday. You must arrive, ready to work when the bell rings (this means having your books/pencils with you) - if you forget your materials and need to get them from your locker, you will be marked LATE, so come prepared! You must ask permission (en français) if you need to leave the classroom to use the washroom or for any other reason You are responsible for making up all material missed (including tests) if you are absent. Check out the class website, or ask me or a classmate before class If you know you will miss a class, let me know before that class so you can be given work to complete

11 Electronic Devices Cell phones can be used in this class, under strict rules. You may use your phone as a dictionary if you are on the Word Reference App. Any other use will result in your phone being taken away. iPods and MP3 players (with headphones) may be used only during individual work time and must be turned off during lessons, speaking activities and tests Continued presence of cell phones in class will result in increasingly severe consequences If you finish your work before others, you may use your phone, providing you are NOT disrupting others. Failure to do so, will result in your loss of privilege and your phone will be taken away.

12 Remind 101 This App helps me send you reminders about due dates or announcements in a safe way The texts come from the app, not my phone and it does not show me your cell number PERIOD 1: take out your phones and send a text to (705) In the message It will send you a text back asking for your name.
