1 College & Career Readiness Assessments MSBSD – Instruction

2 What is CCRA? College & Career Readiness Assessments House Bill 278, Alaska's Education Opportunity Act, was signed into law and became effective on July 1, 2014. The law requires all grade 11 students in Alaska to take a college or career readiness assessment; these assessments are defined as WorkKeys, ACT, and SAT. Students have the option to take either the career- readiness assessment (WorkKeys) or a college- readiness assessment (ACT or SAT). DEED will pay for one administration of one CCRA per student

3 WorkKeys ® WorkKeys® is a job skills assessment system that helps employers select, hire, train, develop, and retain a high- performance workforce. Three required assessments: –Applied Mathematics –Reading for Information –Locating Information

4 ACT The ACT is a national college admissions examination. It is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. One assessment with five subtests: –English –Mathematics –Reading –Science –Writing The ACT is scored based on the number of correct answers with no penalty for guessing.

5 SAT The SAT is a globally recognized college admission test that lets you show colleges what you know and how well you can apply that knowledge. It is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and verbal abilities. One assessment with three subtests: –Critical reading –Writing –Mathematics The SAT penalizes you for wrong answers, so guessing is discouraged.

7 Alaska Performance Scholarship Alaska High School Student may earn the Alaska Performance Scholarship (APS) to pay for college or training in Alaska
