1 M ATERIALS AND M ETHODS V IEWING THE C ASES C ONCLUSION P URPOSE Creating Cases Creating the Folder Hierarchy 1.Provide a free, comprehensive collection of web-accessible pediatric neoplasm cases with pathologic correlation when available. 2.Create a hierarchical index of available cases organized by anatomy and pathology categories, serving as a centralized resource for medical students, residents, fellows and practicing physicians. Cases were created using the free NIH-sponsored teaching file system www.MyPACS.net. Using a web browser, images can be uploaded to the MyPACS server. MyPACS provides a batch uploader to easily add entire directories of cases with a single operation. The case editor form allows easy entry of case properties (anatomy, pathology, modality, patient age, etc) We developed a neoplasm category system based on the SPR pediatric curriculum (http://pedrad.org/trainees/86/), with modifications where needed, consisting of over 200 categories. We entered the curriculum as a tab-delimited text file in wordpad, then pasted the text into the MyPACS Batch Folder creator. MyPACS automatically created a hierarchy of web folders, one for each category system. It was then easy to add cases to the relevant folders using the MyPACS “add to folder” feature. We added cases from our own institution and personal collections. We also searched the entire MyPACS repository for pertinent cases and referenced teaching files on external web databases.http://pedrad.org/trainees/86/ Creating cases in MyPACS.net took only a few minutes per case. Once the images were uploaded, the cases were immediately available for browsing by anyone over the internet. The folder hierarchy was easy to create and can be expanded in the future using the folder manipulator interface on MyPACS. We have added over 700 cases to date, and more are being contributed every month. Pathologic correlation is provided when available. At our institution, all cases presented at Tumor Board have pathologic-radiologic correlation. This makes Tumor Board very functional and also provides a pool for adding cases to the repository. MyPACS increases collaboration and allows us to create a growing resource for future generations. We invite you to submit cases to the collection. Please email pjsilberberg@comcast.net for more information. P RESENTING AT C ONFERENCES By using MyPACS to host your conferences, you don’t have to spend time making PowerPoint slides, and you generate a shared record of all case presentations. 1. Create a subfolder for each conference date: 2. During the week, whenever you encounter an interesting case, you can drop it into the folder for presentation at the meeting: 3. When the conference begins, project the teaching file system directly on the display screen, turn on Training Mode and navigate to the conference folder: 4. During the meeting, each participant can come forward in turn and click on their case. With training mode on, the presenter can discuss the case as an unknown and quiz the audience on the findings. 1. Go to: www.MyPACS.net. 2. Click on “Pediatric Neoplasms” under “Featured Collections” in the lower left corner: 3. Drill down through categories to explore cases. 5. Explore the features of MyPACS: Click on images to enlarge them. Turn on training mode to view cases as unknowns. Post comments. Store interesting cases in your own folders. Search on case text or any properties. Create your own cases! 4. Visit Tracker lets you know which cases you’ve seen before (requires log in). and case text (history, findings, image captions, diagnosis, discussion, references). HTML hyperlinks can be added to make articles and other resources easily available from within the case.
