Examples of Program-level Assessments  Mission statement (program goals) written, and used to prioritize action.  Course content and sequencing examined, based on evidence relating to learning efficiency and student preparedness for upper-level work.  Student satisfaction surveys used to identify problems.  Entrance and exit surveys and/or examinations used to separate prior knowledge from acquired knowledge.

3. Examples of Program-level Assessments  Student background analyses used to set or revise admission standards.  Analyses of junior or senior level projects, portfolios, papers, presentations, used to demonstrate increased student sophistication in meeting program goals.  Judgments of field supervisors for projects and internships compared with internal measures of student readiness.  Job placement rates and/or employer surveys used to gauge program success.  Student attrition information used to identify predictors of failure and to develop intervention strategies.

4. Examples of Program-level Assessments  Standardized tests (such as the ETS major field tests, or the GRE) used to gauge program success in preparing students for their next steps.  External consultant used for increased objectivity in program evaluation and for the injection of innovative ideas.  Program Review Committee guidelines are studied even during off years, to see what kind of information needs to be collected for future use.  Department retreats held to facilitate internal review of courses and programs.
