Rose Baxter : She had slipped on ice at her husband funeral nad fractured her hip. Harold Koenig: Her doctor was worried about that how she can cope with that devastating “life event”. But he had found no sign of depression in her and also she wasn’t in denial. It was a sad time but, I looked forward to being with my remaining family. If I woke up alone or afraid, I read my Bible or talked to God. He’s always there, even when my loved ones were not. It’s the most important thing that kept me going.

Dr. Koenig study of 455 elderly hospital patients :  People who attended church more than once a week Spent about 4 days in the hospital  People who never or rarely attended church Spent about 10 -12 days in the hospital By praying to God, religious patients acquire an indirect form of control over their illness. They believe they aren’t alone in their struggle, & that God is personally interested in them. This safeguards them against the psychological isolation that batters so many people with serious disease. Dartmouth Medical School study :  Heart patients were 14 times more likely to die following surgery if they didn’t participate in group activities & didn’t find comfort in religion.  Within 6 months of surgery, 21 patients had died but there were no deaths among the 37 people who said they were “Deeply Religious.” Yale University study of 2812 elderly people:  Those who never or rarely attended church had nearly twice the stroke rate of weekly churchgoers.

Wired For God stress-related illnesses HypertensionInfertilityInsomniaCardiovascular 60 to 90 percent of doctor visits are for: The relaxed state bring out by prayer and meditation reduces the impact of stress hormones such as Nor-adrenaline & Adrenaline. ADRENALINE People are “Wired for GOD”. Since we’re the only specious of our own mortality. We have “An Organic Craving” for the eternal.

Prayer & Prozac Dr. Matthews approach: Prayer isn’t panacea that should supplant medication. Prayer and Prozac: faith and medicine as the physician and patient judge necessary. “I hope to god that nothing bad shows up in these tests.”

Best of Old & New Achieving emotional tranquility through spiritual mean could be the “Ultimate healing experience.” This use of prayer is not a New Age fad, but represents “very old ideas that we’re rediscovering.”

Repetitive prayer slows heart rates. It’s lowers blood pressure & even slow brain waves, all without drugs or surgery. Miracle or Medicine ?
