King David’s Charge To His Son Solomon 1 Kings 2:1-4

“be strong, therefore…” “… and prove yourself a man” (verse 2)

1 Corinthians 16:13 Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. (NKJV) Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. (KJV) Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. (ESV)

“keep the charge…” “… of the Lord your God” (verse 3)

Philippians 2:14-16 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

2 Timothy 4:1-2 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

“walk in His ways” (verse 3)

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Ephesians 4:1-3 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

“keep His statutes…” “… His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies” (verse 3)

“that you may prosper…” “… in all that you do and wherever you turn” (verse 3)

2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

1 Peter 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Conclusion As Solomon, we must be strong, walking in the ways of God, and keeping his commands… If we do, we are promised at the end of our faith, “even the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:9)
