EMINEM BIOGRAPHY Failed the 9 th grade many times and eventually dropped out when he was 17 Had a huge appreciation for language He has read the entire dictionary trying to learn new words and the appropriate away to use them Has boxes of paper and note pads that are filled with lyrics that he may potentially use in songs

4. EMINEM’S FAMILY Dated Kim Scott several times and married and divorced her twice Has one biological daughter name Hailie, 2 adopted daughters named Lainie and and Whitney

5. TROUBLED PAST He has suffered with addiction to pain pills and has been in and out of rehab. He is finally sober and trying to have that last forever so he can be there for his three daughters.

9. LISTENING GUIDE TO MOCKINGBIRD 0:00 – INTRODUCTION -Short introduction, music enters straight from beginning as Eminem begins to talk. He explains that he knows things don’t make sense and that the girls need to stay strong. 0:23 – VERSE 1 -Raps about how he knows the girls miss both their parents, but they are trying to do everything they can. He knows they are scared, and crying, and they don’t fully understand, but he doesn’t want them growing up how he did and seeing the things he saw, he wants to clean up from using drugs and try to be there for them again. Growing up he saw his mom using drugs and struggling with her life, and he wants his daughters to have better than that. 1:31 –CHORUS - “Now hush little baby, don't you cry. Everything's gonna be alright. Stiffen that upper lip up, little lady, I told ya. Daddy's here to hold ya through the night.I know mommy's not here right now and we don't know why. They were dirt poor and trying to save up money for Hailie to go to college and someone stole it. They lived in terrible towns where homes were getting broken into and robbed and shot at. Then he got a job with Dr. Dre and Kim and Hailie went to visit, but Eminem was gone a lot and Kim hated the girls seeing him on TV. Lainie was very young, and now he is alone without the girls and he is trying to tell them that their mom isn’t gone forever. 3:24- CHORUS -“Now hush little baby, don't you cry. He only starts by saying yo. 0:29- VERSE 1 -Talks about how everyone is protesting him and hate the things he raps about. He has a temper for his dad blowing him and his mom off and from his mom doing drugs and not caring about his as long as he is still breathing. People fighting against him know how to trigger his anger but they don’t understand it, and then goes into discuss that his mom is probably sick of him rapping bad about her. 1:12- CHORUS -I'm sorry momma! I never meant to hurt you! I never meant to make you cry; but tonight, I'm cleaning out my closet (one more time) I said I'm sorry momma! I never meant to hurt you! I never meant to make you cry, but tonight, I'm cleaning out my closet 1:37- VERSE 2 -He questions whether his father kissed him goodbye, they he realizes that he doesn’t care anymore. HE doesn’t understand how a father could just leave his children and not care, because he loves Hailie more than the world and he will work things out with Kim just to make sure he can keep her around himself.

He mentions that his brother will be grown up and realize the same things that he did. He says that Hailie wont be at her funeral because she wont admit that she was wrong and she wont admit that she wasn’t really a mom. 4:01 CHORUS X2 -I'm sorry momma! I never meant to hurt you! Repeats twice, the second time the volume is full right after the thunder noise. 0:51- VERSE 1 -Fan names Stan writes him a letter. He rights that he is the biggest fan and that he has picture and posters up of Eminem. He says that he gave his phone numbers and wants Slim to call him, he says that his girlfriend is pregnant and he wants to name the baby Bonnie if he has a girl. 1:38-CHORUS- REPEATED 2:02-VERSE 2 - HE really wants Slim to write or call so he sends another letter saying that he thinks it dumb he won’t answer fans. He says he took his little brother to his concert and he Slim wouldn’t even sign the autograph. They waited in line for hours and got no explanation. He said that he also never knew his father and he is relating to what Eminem raps about, he says that he cuts himself to see how much it bleeds, he got a tattoo with Slim’s name on his chest, and his girlfriend is jealous he is always talking about Eminem and he thinks he should be with Eminem.

13. STAN (CONTINUED) 3:14- CHORUS- REPEATED 3:42-VERSE 3 -He is mad that Slim will not write back to him. He just wanted to talk to him and now he is in the car with his girlfriend in the trunk and he is speeding, the cassette is recording and he is drugged on pills and drowsy, and then he takes his life and his girlfriends when the car crashed and goes over a bridge and they die. 5:13-CHORUS -Repeated 5:33-VERSE 4 -Eminem writes back to Stan explaining that he is sorry that he couldn’t get back to him and writes asking how is girlfriend is. Then he asks Stan why he said they should be together and tell him that he has issues and should talk to someone. Eminem then says he hopes that the letter reaches him in time and then realizes that he her a story about how some guy was drunk and went over a bridge with his girlfriend in the trunk, and realizes that Stan is the man from the story.
