Providing Artwork at an Episodic Level Shared XDAM Solution or ExtraNet Feed Solution Proof of Concept

Develop Solutions for Providing Episodic Artwork Downstream 2014 2000s Maximize Set Top Box Interactivity Through Guide & Search Functions Improve Quality of Screengrabs Fed to Metadata Partners B AD S CREENGRAB : -Awkward Facial Expression -Lack of guest visibility B ETTER S CREENGRAB : -Action Shot -Utilizes guest Modern MVPD Operating Systems (Xfinity X1, Playstation Vue) have more image based than text based guide and search functions DVR assets sorted by title card or seasonal artwork all look identical Limits Number of Updates Required Within Workflow to Improve Artwork

Two Solutions around Two Systems Lightbox/XDAM Owned by Photo Dept. Own 70% of all episodic artwork Fed via Extranet Solution to Media Village Extranet Owned by DD Marketing Own seasonal art Fed via Extranet Solution Transactional & VOD Partners Biggest Challenges S CALE Manual Process of Extranet Not Scalable at Episodic Level w/ upwards of 200 images per episode T IMING 11+ Asset Product Types with Various Photo Shoot Dates & Linear Broadcast Schedules P ARTNER A CCESS Rovi & Gracenote need Automatic & Manual Retrieval Options B RAND A CCESS No Interaction Between Digital Distribution & Photo Dept

Metadata Feed Workflow Field Availability Field Flexibility Title Structure Auto Population Asset Association Metadata Multi-Department Identification & Approval Process Required User Roles User Role Workflow Analysis Product Gap Analysis Auto Image Cutdown & Auto Image Overlay Update Process Creating Title Association (Unique Identifier) Feed & File Download Options (FTP, URL, etc.) Update Process In & Out of Standard Window Approval Changes Once In Feed Options for Archiving Old Assets Query Functionality Handling Multiple Feeds Error in Feeds Non Approved Assets *See Appendix for Details

Product Identification & Gap Analysis* Project TypeDescriptionExampleAction Episodic Products High percentage of Seasonal & Episodic Artwork Ownership Content Variation Between Episodes Parks & Recreation The Blacklist Brooklyn Nine-Nine Keeping Up with the Kardashians Need to distribute 100% at episodic & seasonal level to ensure dynamic search & viewing experience Seasonal Products Content Doesn’t Have a High Degree of Variation Between Episodes Issues with Linear Broadcast Turnaround & Artwork Availability The Rachel Maddow Show The Golden Globe Awards Sunday Night Football Need to distribute 100% at seasonal level- delivering episodic artwork may cause customer confusion or have little impact on experience Out of Project Scope Library product from other studios feature films Questions of Product Ownership My Wife & Kids Evan Almighty How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days Keep pre-existing workflow (if any) and reexamine at a later date *See Appendix for Details

Primary- Business Process Based Already Holds a Library of Episodic Assets from Previous Seasons of Shows Metadata Held Within Images Defined hierarchical title structure Automated feed & API management Primary- Business Process Based No Unified Title ID Structure XDAM Functionality Pros and Cons Pros Secondary- Product Based Provides Grouping by Network, Title, Season, and Episode System Customized by Photo Dept. with Many Necessary Metadata Fields Secondary- Product Based Auto-Image Cutdown Unavailable No Option to Overlay Artwork with Brand Logos (Automatic or Manual) Lacks Automatic Notification System when Assets Move Folders or Sent to Feeds Cons

Systems Legend Photography Marketing Brand Extranet NBCU DD Episodic d XDAM Seasonal Episodic Brand XDAM Marketing Episodic Seasonal Photography Shared XDAM Solution ExtraNet Feed Solutions System Adjustments 1.Marketing workflow moved to XDAM 1.Photo & Marketing same system 2.Brands Approving in XDAM 2.Necessary Builds 1.Digital Distribution front end (Which might be the Extranet?) 2.Feeds to Rovi and Gracenote System Adjustments 1.Extranet Backend 1.Feed Ingestion from XDAM 2.Feed Dissemination Build out 2.Extranet Frontend 1.UI for Partner Access Small Partners Digital Distribution Marketing Photo Department Ops Brand

Changes occur inside or outside XDAM Folder opened to allow for asset review by Brand Seasonal & Episodic Artwork populated in Extranet & audited Any edits and alterations are made and prepped for Brand review Folder pushed to partners Primary & Secondary assets approved & artwork moved to appropriate folder Collections fed out to internal and external partners XDAM Workflow Extranet Workflow Systems Legend Digital Distribution Marketing Photo Department Ops Brand

Solutions Benefits vs. What they Lack ExtraNet Feed Solution Benefits Shared XDAM Solution Benefits Unified Title ID Notification system Auto image cut down Minimal workflow impact Strong feed solution Work flow system Single system to manage Defined hierarchical title structure (through Metadata) Automated feed & API management Both Lacking

Appendix Data Analysis Tasks

Proof of Concept Test Cases- Metadata NameDescriptionComments Field Availability Validate to see what fields exist against current requirements from Rovi & TMS Default metadata tabs: Description, Camera Data 1, Camera Data 2, Categories, IPTC Contact, IPTC Content, IPTC Status, Origin Field Flexibility Based on Field Types & structure based on Field Availability, can required fields be added? All MD tabs are customizable. Non Hierarchical Title Structure Look at how titles such as Collision Earth or specials such as the Alma Awards or CNBC Originals are structured Currently lack unified title structure Hierarchical Title Structure What is the title structure to support Hierarchical titles- how is it managed, stored, and searchable Currently lack unified title structure Artwork Types Collected Reviewing what type of artworks is visible today. Is it consistently added for each show. See Slides 19-21 Auto Population Can any of the fields be populated via the asset All metadata is stored within the asset outside of XDAM prior to upload within the XDAM system Field Population Analysis Review each field to determine who and where in the workflow each field can be populated Slides 9 and 10 show the two workflows and where metadata is added.

Proof of Concept Test Cases- Workflow NameDescriptionComments Project Association Photo Department currently works on a project base. How would that work given we are title based? Current Structure: Divisions = Networks Subdivisions = Shows Projects = Jobs (Title, Season, Episode) Collections = Approved Feeds Approval Process What are the standard workflows today? Collections are the main avenue for approving and editing items. Admin access allows certain groups to have only certain access to the different collection Once they performed the necessary actions on each collection, they can then move their edited work to the next collection to be approved or edited by other users. There is a tool to notify those with access to a certain collection that there is new content Multi Source Approval If we have different teams that provide assets- how is the approval process different? Slides 9 and 10 show the two workflows and where approval occurs. User Role Analysis Examine the current user role structure and capabilities Admin rights allow the creation of users- once users are created, permissions can be administered by the admin user Required User Roles Examine possible workflows; what are the user roles that are currently available and what can be corrected? Specific roles: 1) Admins- All Access 2) Photo Producers 3) Digital Techs 4) Job User- simply has access to content stored within XDAM

Proof of Concept Test Cases- Workflow NameDescriptionComments Standard Episodic Workflow for normal entertainment seriesSee Slide 4 “Current Image Asset Workflow” Hierarchical Daily Images Does it make sense to have different images each day or should the same artwork be used. See Slide 6 “XXXXXXXXXXXX” Movies or Specials What is the workflow for movies & specialsSee Slide 21 “Gap Analysis of out of Scope Products” Live Record What would be the workflow for adding live recorded content. For example Golf shows, The Voice, or The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Prelinears What is the timing of the artwork- is it fast enough for prelinears Auto Image Cutdown Based on image spec how many different pieces of artwork could be created. Can it be done automatically? Update Process What is the work flow for updating metadata or the artwork itself Approval Process for Primary Asset At what point in time can you identify a primary asset- How can we change it later down the road? Slides 9 and 10 show the two workflows and where approval occurs.

Proof of Concept Test Cases- Workflow NameDescriptionComments File Download Option What is an alternative if someone can not consume a feed- is there a location we can set for them to download See Slides 9 & 10: “Workflow Within Shared XDAM Solution” and “Workflow Within ExtraNet Feed Solution” Creating Title Association Determine where in the process a title association can be made to either an EIDR ID or Rovi ID or some external title system Images for NBCU owned not on VOD What is the artwork process for shows like “House” where NBCU owns the show but it is aired on non NBCU network See Slide 19 “Gap Analysis of In Scope Primary Product Ownership” Images for non-NBCU show on VOD How do we get artwork for non-NBCU shows such as Modern Family DD Marketing works directly with distributing brands to acquire artwork Infomercials Is there a way to get artwork for infomercialsSee Slide 21 “Gap Analysis of out of Scope Products”

Proof of Concept Test Cases- Feed NameDescription New Season Artwork Added What would happen to the feed if a new season came in and we need to replace existing artwork- how does Rovi handle? Update Process While in New Window How is the update identified for an asset still in the 2 weeks default Update Process While Out of Window How is the update identified for an asset out of the 2 week default window Change Primary Asset How is the reflection that Asset A was the primary but now we’ve made Asset B the primary Past Artwork Query for past artwork either previous season or past episodes missed Default Feed for Last 2 Weeks Default feed based on last 2 weeks approved Default Based on Time Approved not Added Test to see if an asset added several days or weeks ago is added to the feed once approved NameDescription Query Functionality such as “by time” Determine if the feed can allow for queries in the data- can I specify that I want data updated from 8 weeks ago or can I get asset for all the item in window FTP Delivery Can we delivery message file via FTP URL Delivery Can the delivery of message be done via URL call How Easy is it to Change Feed If we need to create a few for TMS or ROVI- how easy would it be to implement How are Multiple Feeds Managed? How easy would it be to manage several specs. For instance the Standard Feed, Rovi’s Feed, TMS Feed, and ExtraNet Feed Error Handling of Feeds Analyze common problems that exist today and how are they managed Feed Breakdown Breakdown feed by each network Non-Approved Assets Assets not approved should not be found in feed

Types of Images ValueCommentExample Head Shot: Key A head shot or upper body shot of key cast member. Such a shot includes little or no extraneous set, and the image would look good if scaled down to thumbnail size. Group A shot including five or more cast members, which can be a mix of key and supporting cast or only supporting cast. Any imagery that may appear in the background does not affect this categorization. Station Logo Official Station logos (can include call letters and/or imagery) Program Logo An image of the stylized program title ValueCommentExample Program: Key Still imagery from the program (e.g. a scene or action shot) including ?? or more key cast members Key Art Cast or key show imagery Box Art Key are combined with title treatment Production Key Still imagery that conveys show identity thru staged photography of key cast on set

Gap Analysis of In Scope-Primary Product Ownership Examples Photo Dept Ops (XDAM) Episodic Artwork DD Marketing (XtraNet) Seasonal Artwork In Scope- Primary Products NBCU Owned & Distributed Pre-Recorded Entertainment Parks & Recreation, The Mysteries of Laura NBCU Owned Pre- Recorded Entertainment Brooklyn Nine- Nine, Bates Motel, NBCU Distributed Pre- Recorded Entertainment Constantine, The Blacklist NBCU Distributed Specials Peter Pan Live!, Kathy Griffin Specials* NBCU Pre-Recorded Reality Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Real Housewives…, Ownership Key (Approximate) 100% 75% 50%25%0%
