1 Greek Mythology By: Morgan, Abby, & Megan

2 Theseus ●Lineage: Hercules’s cousin, Lovers: Phaedra, Hippolyta, Parents: Aegeus & Aethra. ●Symbol: ●Powers: Strength, wit, charm ●Weakness: Forgetful ●Description: Strong, loyal, caring to his close relations, heroic, courageous

3 ●Important Events: ○Slays minotaur to with help from Ariadne. ○Banishes his innocent son Hippolytus because his wife Phaedra fell in love with him and killed herself. ○His father set a boulder for his son to lift to prove his strength and worthiness in order to meet him. ○Went to go find the golden fleece. ○Lord of Hades saved Theseus from the underworld and from then he married Phaedra.

4 ●Allusion:Harry Potter- Harry didn't know he was a wizard until later in life; Theseus didn't know he was the king’s son until later in life. ●In relation to everyday life: Theseus became a great national hero of Attica, he also became an important political figure of Athens in the early fifth century. Also today people call mazes labyrinths.

5 Minotaur ●Lineage: offspring of Minos’ wife Pasiphae and a wonderfully beautiful bull, Father-Poseidon, Foster father- Androgeus, Half brothers- Catreus, Deucalion, Glaucus; Half-sisters: Ariadne and Phaedra; Brother-in-law: Theseus and Dionysus ●Symbol:

6 ●Powers: Incredibly strong with sharp horns, a fierce fighter, hungry for flesh ●Weakness: Not incredibly bright; a bit top heavy, constantly hungry and angry, can be killed with his own horn. ●Description: Half human, half bull ●Events: ○ Every 9 years 7 maidens and 7 youths were sacrificed to the Minotaur

7 ○ Daedalus a great architect and inventor built the labyrinth which trapped the Minotaur. ●Allusions: Narnia

8 Centaurs (Chiron) ●Lineage: Son of Titan(Kronos) half brother of Zeus, Mother: Philyra, Offspring: The Nymphai Pelionides, Endeis, Melanippe, Okyrrhoe, Karystos ●Symbol:

9 ●Description: More like beasts than men, Half man, half horse, (Just Chiron)-known for his goodness, and wisdom ●Powers: Physically strong, wise, more mature than the other Centaur ●Weakness: His star pupil Aesculapius

10 ●Events: ○ Hercules caused his death by an accidental wound. ○ Zeus permitted Chiron to die rather than live forever in pain. ●Allusion: Narnia and Harry Potter

11 Ariadne ●Lineage: ○ Parents: Minos and Pasiphae ○ Lovers: Theseus(fell in love with him), Dionysos (Husband) ○ Children:Thoas, Staphylos, Oinopion, Peparethos, Eurymedon

12 ●Symbol: ●Powers: Mortal ●Weaknesses: Her love for Theseus ●Description: Cunning and witty ●Events: Told Theseus the secret to exiting the labyrinth in exchange for marriage

13 ●Events: ○ Theseus left her on the island of Naxos where she died ○ Dionysus saved her then turned her immortal to become his wife ●Allusion: Midsummer Night’s Dream
