3 USGS Implementation Progress USGS is introducing a suite of data management policies ( Target date: mid-January, 2015) · Scientific Data Management Foundation Policy · Asks for a data management plan · Metadata for Scientific Data, Software, and Other Information Products · Requires standardized metadata for data and information products · Requires a persistent identifier in the metadata record · Made available thru the Science Data Catalog · Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release · Peer-reviewed data and metadata · Open-access formats · Preservation Requirements for Digital Scientific Data · Data is deposited in an appropriate repository
